Agree with the previous users, slugs should be short and descriptive. When it comes to making the transition, you want to pay attention to all areas of your site. Especially URLs. Also there is a wide variety of ways to get a 'free' SSL depending on who you choose as your hosting service. Places like bluehost and flywheel typically just give them with hosting.
