Intro
It's nice to see case studies on Blackhatworld.
I know that I appreciate this kind of threads the most. It gets me excited.
1. What is this case study about?
A couple of months ago I thought to test out if I can index spun content on parasites (lovely expired Tumblrs), without building backlinks or submitting to indexing services.
A secondary goal was to see if I can rank any of the blogs with the spun content and no additional backlinks.
2. Ingredients used:
A. Cleverspinner
Haven't tested recently against Wordai, but I assume they are still similar in terms of results. However, the price of Cleverspinner is about 5 times cheaper.
Maybe I am just cheap and that is why I think Cleverspinner is the better choice.
I am a user for more than 1 year and I am more than satisfied. It is my ingredient for some of my tier 1 and for my Tumblr Blast service.
I used "1 Acceptable" and "2 Quite Good" settings to spin.
I chose articles that had over 1000 words.
Spent a couple of minutes to edit manually a bit.
Thinking back I should've used the "Mix - Best Rewrite" or "Mix - Best Rew Rem" option to skip the manual edit to assure the uniqueness from the first run.
The aim was that the article would pass plagiarism check. I would say at least half of the content is not readable as it is not making much sense.
To make it readable it would probably take at least 10 minutes per article.
B. Expired Tumblrs
Self-explanatory. Here is the current MOZ metrics:
Each has at least a few hundred backlinks.
You can see the metrics are not the highest possible, considering you can get up to PA60-80 and thousands of backlinks pretty easy.
1 of the 6 blogs has adult keywords in the username.
Tumblrs are not niche related. Tiered of people looking for 'niche related' expired web2.0's.
Niche related expired Tumblrs are not worthed to search for. The supply is low or non-existent as Tumblrs that are built with a niche in mind are from IMers like you and me. They will never delete their own blogs.
Instead, people (kids mostly) that blog about random stuff will most often delete their own Tumblr.
Each blog has a short-url to an affiliate offer. However, I am expecting to have conversions on this niche only if the blogs rank top3.
3. Let's check Indexing and if the page Ranks for any keyword.
The initial plan was to make more blogs with spun content. However, stopped after 6.
As you can see all got indexed. Some indexed after 1 week and others after 3-4 weeks.
4. Rankings according to Semrush after 5-6 weeks
The 5 out of 6 blogs that rank show at least 2 keywords in top 40.
Probably Ahrefs will show more keywords ranking for these blogs. As I see Ahrefs has usually data that is more recent compared to Semrush.
My aim was to see how good does spun content index on expired Tumblrs without building additional links.
I am surprised that every blog got indexed eventually.
Even more surprised that 5 out of 6 ranks for some keywords, even if the keywords are obscure and they are not all buying keywords.
I don't expect the rankings to improve much without building backlink.
Now I got 6 blogs ready to be transformed in tier 1.
If any of the blogs will rank top3 will go back and edit content to make it 100% readable.
