what happens to domain name purchase when immediately cancelled?

i purchased a hosting plan today and registered a free domain along with it. 3 hours later i cancelled the package. I really liked the domain name though. what'll happen to domain name? can i repurchase it from another hosting company? its a fresh new domain if anyone wondering

i just checked, the hosting company only partially refunded my money, the domain is still active and still registered under my name
