so I used to own a few sites but last year decided to sell them and move on as it required far too much attention. Since then I've been working a regular job offline. I'd like to make my way back online possibly for some passive income not something that is gonna keep me glued to my screen.
I've put about $25k to the side for this.

At first I thought let me get into forex or stocks but the more I read about it the more it sounds like pure gambling. So not something I would do.

Instagram is another option but that doesn't seem like it really needs a investment to start and get going. I'm gonna start a couple just in the niches that I'm actually interested in myself so it will be work and a little play. Just niches I have passion for.

I am a web developer so I do know how to create and run a website. It's just been a long time I've been away from online biz so don't really know where to get back in from.

any suggestions in a long term online business? Passive or not?

Build a small evergreen website on white hat, once you have some visitators that worth monetize start roll. (actually this is my plan) :D

sounds boring. But if you have a passion for that kind of think good luck bro.

I do have a passion for the grey area online so I'm not saying it has to be fully legal. But I guess for growing the project long term legit is the way to go. But I am open to white, grey, black hat solutions.

I think you should target broad niche (but find hidden buyers' keywords beforehand). You can code so you can Silo it perfectly... Make some money pages and supporting posts and you will find you in good position.

These are two contrary statements.
First be clear with your self what number of hours per week you would like to spend on this next project of yours.

Since you are a web developer (whatever that means nowadays) and not a marketer I would suggest this:
think about creating your own brand. Think very carefully about your products. Do dropshipping at first if you would like that.
Or pay some decent designer to create designs for your chosen nice. Then print that on t-shirts, mugs etc. (just an idea. choose whatever you like.)

Create WooCoomerce store (so you don't need to pay Shopify or any other platform because maybe you could fail at first).
Start promoting.
Ah, you don't want to do that, I'm guessing.
Then, find people who will do it for you!
Don't think too much. Don't try to do everything by yourself. That amount of $ is really, really big startup capital for a project like this.

Here on the forum, there was a great guy who did FB ads with amazing results. Find him or people like him.
Usually, this is the hardest part for the most of people and 90% will give up right here.

If you choose this path your most important work will be to find a good niche and find a designer who will make winning products for you.
Or, if you go Aliexpress route you will need to find winners by yourself (although I don't recommend this).
Actually, there is countless of companies who would dropship for you. Just do research on YT and join different FB groups about Shopify / Dropshipping.

Everything you will need for the first phase you'll find easily on Youtube. Take a week to research. Or even two weeks.
Doesn't matter. Just do that first part pretty good.

After you see money rolling in just scale that up.
(this is something you need to have on your mind in the beginning. find a really big niche where you can introduce new products every month.)

With that experience (and more cash) you can easily build another brand or come back here and ask for a new idea.

Anyway, whatever you do - just don't overcomplicate it.

Buy 50-100% of a website and keep the seller on with a profit share. That way, you'll de-risk site growth and learn plenty to put into more projects. Also, you'll start getting returns in month 1.

Even better.

Use IG with 10-20 accounts at the start to drive visitors to your store.
When you see orders rolling in just scale that as much as you can.

Again, no need to do it yourself. There are people who can run 1000's of IG accounts for you.
Just pay them a monthly salary.

And, if you don't get any orders you haven't lost much. Just create a new store(s) and new accounts for that niche until you find a winner.
Then use my advice from above.

Good luck.

My thought exactly!
I didn't receive a single pm

I'm not saying I wont invest my time I'm just saying I would prefer something on the side where I can earn on with minimal effort. However if a good opportunity presents itself and there is good money to be made I will invest 12 hours a day into it. But yeah you're 100% right I'm confused and really don't know what I'm planning on doing atm just looking for some ideas and where to jump back in from. Once I've started somewhere I know myself I will start other ones alongside it. Being away from online biz for over a year it just seems hard to get back in.

The minimal effort won't bring a good or even decent result, you will just waste time and money.
You can hire someone/outsource your tasks as an option, but you still have to invest enough time.

The best investment you can make is in yourself (education). With online marketing, it will be less than 25k so I just saved you $.

You are honest with yourself.
Great start!

And yeah, it would be hard to come back for the most of us after that amount of time.

Now, you could just take 3-4-5 weeks and write all your ideas somewhere. Write everything to the details.
Spend a lot of time on YT. Go through every course you believe it's good, talk with people here on the forums, spend time in FB groups...

After those few weeks, you will have a pretty good idea what you will pursue in the future.
Rember, you are not in a rush! You have a lot of money for any online business and with the proper execution, you could earn even more than that in less than 2 months.

Read my first post again, write down whatever rings for you and keep opening your eyes in many different directions.

I have $1k per month automated income android apps if you are interested to buy.
