Severe Depression and Anxiety

Here's the thing with depression and anxiety - for a significant number of people, those issues are a permanent part of their lives. Most people can't deal with those issues by themselves. And, that's nothing to be ashamed of. If you're suffering from severe depression, and you have intrusive thoughts that you can't deal with or shake off, you need to seek help. It's easy for people who think depression is just a state of funk or sadness to say you need to shake things up, travel, or get a hobby. It's not that simple. Depression is so much more than just feeling sad. It's a feeling of emptiness, hollowness, and despair. Furthermore, it's overwhelming.

I would honestly recommend talk therapy. Yes, natural remedies, oils, and various activities can help. However, nothing beats therapy. Talk to a professional who can actually offer advice different than "Shake it off" or "Stop thinking about it". If needed, antidepressants can also help. Yes, there are a lot of downfalls to them, but, sometimes they are the right starting point. However, if you find a proper therapist, one that follows a program that suits your needs, you can work together on a course of treatment. I can see that someone recommended cognitive behavioral therapy. That would also be my suggestion, but, you can see what works best for you.

Don't be afraid to reach out and ask for help. Friends and family can only do so much. Especially if they don't really understand the symptoms because they never experienced them. Talking to someone who knows how you feel, and the kind of thoughts you have will be liberating because you won't have to explain or try to make them understand.

Remember, mental health is just as important as physical health. Therefore, don't leave it to fate and hope that your issues will resolve themselves.

Can you tell more about what the therapist communicates in therapy? A brief idea will also do.

Some doctors say that depression cab be genetic. So, if we apply that logic it is probable that someone suffering from it might have another elder person in family who had already been through it.

There are many other benefits of having a family members support. Like for severe cases, a person might be required to ensure that the patient takes the medications regularly till the symptoms are relieved.

I will not try to be religious here but sometimes I feel that even the doctors prescribing the medicines know that these cannot cure the disease permanently. They say something like the treatment will run for years. Only rare ones will tell you to use alternative approaches with medicines.

It depends on the type of therapy. Cognitive behavioral therapy works on developing techniques and methods to replace intrusive thoughts. Depression and anxiety often go hand in hand, and the most recognizable symptoms are negative thoughts, intrusive thoughts, and, in more severe cases, suicidal thoughts. CBT helps people identify unhelpful, negative thoughts, and replace them with healthy alternatives. Usually, the therapist and the client will set a list of achievable goals and tasks that the client has to go through. CBT also includes talking about current problems, issues, and fears that the client is facing.

Yes, genes can be a contributing factor to depression. However, you can't really pinpoint one cause or one factor that led to depression. It's usually a myriad of interactive factors that cause depression. Both nature and nurture play their part.

Of course, having a strong support system is important. However, it's not enough for most people. Just like professional help isn't enough without the support of friends and family.

Yes, there are doctors out there who prescribe medications willy-nilly. However, that's rarely the case with CBT. Since it's primarily talk-therapy, the course of treatment will most likely be to talk and work on the issues and solutions together. Still, sometimes medication is the only way to deal with severe symptoms. Although, since I'm not a licenced practitioner, I can't really say for sure what kind of circumstances lead to pharmaceutical therapy.

I know it's an old thread, but I wanted to share a method that helps me a lot. It's not medication, but if you are open to other methods maybe you can try it out. It's called RTT, Rapid Transformational Therapy. I ended up bying a program, but there are plenty of free stuff. Google Marisa Peer, there are a lot of short youtube videos if you would like to check it out. The program is a little expensive, but if you are short on cash, I can share it with you, (the actual product). I know how this stuff can mess up lives, so if you want you can send me a pm and I can message you the program.

Hi there,

Depending whether you are "depressed" or have "anxiety" generally or as a syndrome; mental illness are two very different things and require the advice and counseling of a mental health professional.

Financial stress, loss of a loved one and loss of a job are considered the biggest stressed related triggers of mental illness within our society. I hope you can find some help.

all the best.

I have severe depression and anxiety. I tried all type of medication but medicine are not working for me at all. My mind is continuously thinking and it does not even stop while sleeping. I post the thread previously too here and on advice by a member, I tried St. John wort but now that's not working too.I daily do yoga for half an hour and 1 hour brisk walking in the evening. Please help me

Have you tried full spectrum CBD oil?

I also suffer from clinical depression, I think what helps me is that I know what my problem is, the only thing that depresses me is struggling to solve it.. Thinking about it gives me a throbbing headache, but what's important is having plans up on your sleeve and I mean solid plans as to how you're going to tackle all your problems. Be realistic and always keep good energy and vibes around you.. Depression will make you lose self confidence thinking you're ugly and not good enough, tell you what that's satan playing with your head, do not let bad thoughts get to you.. Funny enough I helped 2 people suffering from depression last year, they got back on their feet and always thank me whenever they see me. But i'm still here, in this hell hole:rolleyes:

I take one prozac every night before bedtime. I also do sports every day. (I've been doing this for fifteen years:)This works for me. I hope it helps.

This is disheartening, I hope God helps you through your hard times. The only way I try to deal with my depression is crying a lot and attempt suicide.. After getting tired I sleep

Dude, depression isn’t something that random internet users can help you with.

I agree 100%. No one on this forum is a medical professional and therefore, any advice given should be considered as an unqualified opinion.

the people who think there behavior is normal and do nothing about it.

with it after 16 yrs i dont no, guess shes use to it, probably thinks
there he goes again.
