YouTbe channel question

I've had a YT channel for several years. I'd say its performance is mediocre, and I'd like to change that..

I've got hundreds of review videos posted but only 700 subscribers.

HERE'S THE QUESTION...

If I wanted to run a new campaign in my channel to boost subscribers, views, etc. would I be better off starting a brand new channel?

For example, if I decided to upload the videos in this campaign to my existing channel (same niche btw) would it work against me that this channel has already kind of established itself as mediocre OR is it never too late to turn around any YouTube channel with good engaging videos and proper optimization?

If anyone here has had a sluggish channel that suddenly took off after a few years, that would likely answer my question in itself..

But as for now, I'm just not sure if I'd be better off starting a new channel altogether.

I'd like to think that the age of the channel & number of videos uploaded would equate to some kind of advantage of a brand new cahnnel with no subs and no videos, but I honestly have no clue!

You need to study the stats of the page...in there is the answer to the question.

Its all in the numbers as yt , ggl ,bing is numbers game.

In all honesty, my opinion is that your type of channel (reviews) is best left for SEO visitors. Subscribers don't amount to much (they can't keep buying your products) and I don't think it would be worth it to try and build a huge audience base.

If you're just going to do the same niche keep the same YouTube account. It's hardest to get the first few 100 subscribers anyway.

I personal view is that try with new channel with new quality videos and I am also scare how much you can make by promoting the videos. Best option is to rank them organic ways and receive free traffic and earn as much as possible even though these will take time. Thank you

You've said this is a review channel. How niched down is it? Do you have a brand? A certain thing about YOUR videos that gets people coming back or is it pretty generic? Or is it a niche that is mostly one time buyers with no specific interest?

As an example: if I have an electric skateboard review channel, my personality could have people coming back for more (think Casey Neistat), or it could be my level of detail in which I analyze the boards. What do you provide that your viewers can't get anywhere else?

How many of your views on your recent videos are actual subscriber views? How many sales are you getting from these videos from new subscribers?

Ask the right questions of yourself & you'll get the right information.

I believe Fight Mediocrity deleted some of his older videos that didn't get traction & weren't good and got some good traction by keeping his old channel. Having an older channel might lead to SEO benefits, but if your old videos are crappy that will lead to lower overall channel watchtime and will actually lead to worse rankings on YouTube, so I would take look at that & at the ranks of your current videos and go from there.

Without getting into too much detail about the channel & niche itself, I can tell you that yes, it is the type of channel in which if you make an impression on your audience, there is a good chance of them coming back. The top authority channel in my niche has thousands of subscribers and one of the reason he does so well is that whenever a new product comes out in this niche people come back to his videos to see what he has to say about it.

But I've studied his channel and what I find interesting is that before he settled into this niche, he made his mark on YT by launching a "make money online" video. It got 20k+ views and you can see a pattern ever since that video was posted, the view count for his regular videos increased significantly, and before that video, they were inconsistent.

As far as what I provide to MY viewers that they can't find anywhere else, I offer cash back rebates in which i essentially split my commission with the customer. Problem is, I'm not giving them much in the way of my personality in the videos, which is probably something I have to change.

But if I were to make such a change, my question is would I be better off just starting a new channel altogether? Or would it hurt me in any way to continue using my existing channel? (considering this channel has been around for 4+ years already)

OK now here is an amateur'ish question... but you asked me how many of my views are coming from subscribers... where do I look in the YT analytics to find that info?

All I could find was "Traffic Source Types" and under this, it shows

YT search 42.6%
External 26.8%
Suggested videos 14.1%

Direct or unknown 4%

Finally, your comment about watch time had me thinking... I know this is an important metric towards how well individual videos are ranking... but what I did not take into consideration as much is how the average watch time for ALL videos in my channel would have an impact on each video that I upload. For instance, if my channel has an average or mediocre watch time associated with my videos overall, how much does that impact each individual video that I upload?

For the record, YT shows this statistic for my watch time: 2:56 (23.4%) average view duration

I do not know what other channels look like, but I'm willing to bet that is not "terrible" but it isn't good either.

I was always under the impression that the performance of an individual video during the first 24 hours was the biggest factor of all, but if historic performance is a major factor, then perhaps I should really consider starting fresh with a new channel? Especially if I'm going to try to switch things up.

I am facing the same issue of the OP. I wanted to come back to upload videos for a channel that has been slept for 2 years. I think I have good quality videos so I don't leave the channel, but I am thinking to start a new channel with and use them both and advertise each other, so my old dedicated subs can come to my new channel and my new subscribers on the new channel can get invited to my old channel. can this be a good plan? what do you think?

yes, exactly always do your own tests, since on this field there is no right or wrong, a random channel with similar video can get outrank you even if you have a better content.

i say :'save as new'
1. create a new channel
2. spin all the videos(!) so they will not be indent to the old uploads, and upload them 1-2 per day to the new channel
3. re-do the whole description, titles and tags, max them use as many search terms ideas as possible

recycle - you can also create many channels that are the same as the main English channel but "translated' to different languages with subtitles
