How long will automation last?

Hi everyone. Great community. Started a successful Instagram promotion business less than a year ago to help clients grow their followers with targeted users using automation software.

Nothing new with our strategy, part of the process is to like a post and do a temporary follow to a follower of one of our targeted users/pages. but in April tech crunch said "In January, Instagram announced it would shut down the old API over the next two years, starting with removing the ability to pull a user’s follower list and follow/unfollow people on their behalf on July 31st." does that mean software will be cut off from accessing User's followers.

Is Instagram really going to stop this type of automation, which would essentially stop overall engagement on the site?

I'm sure this has been discussed before, so maybe there are better threads than for me to start a new one. but as a "newbie" wanted to jump in. Thanks for any insight.

It will stop software that automates, but there will always be customized underground solutions only few people has :P

No, software like this will always exist...might make it a little harder though.

Quick walk around would be a bot that scrapes users from likes and comments on post. It might be harder to gain follower but it might be better also since most people following you will actually be engaging with your post.

automation isn't going to die anytime soon. New algorithm will always attract new bots. Everytime instagram updates, so does the automation bots.

IF there is one bot that exists, there will be something just as good available for sale. This means that botting will never end. I am a strong believer that there is at least one person for every single business imaginable in the world making good money. Selling good bods is one of them.

Bots and instagram have a weird symbiosis so they will never end botting. Even if they wanted they couldn't eliminate bot s completely since people always find a way around. Instagram knows how how many bots there are on its platform (even though they don't acknowledge the true scale), banning all accounts that use automation would be very damaging to the company. Bots are here to stay.

Specific methods of automation will come and go in arms race fashion, but automation will be around...

Ofcourse not, but botting today in general is harder than 10 or even 5 years ago. And it will become even more harder from time to time.

Is instagram closing down in next update? :D

I suspect they might be leaning towards going back to Chronological in the next year, or some hybrid of Chrono and their ever changing "showing you the posts that matter the most to you" BS because it's pretty easy to manipulate the algo's now compared to pre-explore page days.
