How long does a site take to rank

hey guys, my site is barely a month old. i've received adsense and been building backlinks as well; web 2.0s and profile links but still no glaring improvement. Someone spoke about google sandbox and i don't know how true it is. Is google sandbox really holding me down or are there more links i need to build.

Having your site indexed and getting it ranked is quite different.
How high you rank depends on the niche you choose, its competetion, quality of your backlinks, chosen keywords, your CONTENT and many more factors.
If you aim too high for broader keywords in competetive niche, it might take years to come, but if you target micro niche keywords with healthy, unique and good content, it might rank in 2-4 months.

you need to read alot, and then implement alotl before you feel your site should start ranking

go through the forums and you'll find hundreds of ways for seo.

Very generic question. Each site will be different because it really matters and which keywords are you targeting not the site alone.
My new sites usually take longer these days to rank but I have a lot of people with sites they had delivered within the last 2 weeks to for 5 weeks and some already ranking on the first page even one and others are ranking lower so you'll have to define more ranking, ranking as in index than taking 2nd 3rd or 4th page or higher after you do SEO

I can't be bothered arguing with all of the people who talk about sandboxes and 2 - 3 months etc, but I built a brand new site on a brand new domain a little over 3 weeks ago, and it is ranking in the top 100 for 74 keywords, and the top 10 for 3 already.

The terms are easy - medium, and 500 - 1500 monthly searches.

One of the pages is 5 days old and it ranks on page 1 for its main keyword already, which gets 500 monthly searches.

For what it's worth, I consider my self somewhere between shit and average at SEO, so those aren't special results.

I am in the exactly same situation. My site published 1 month ago. I am still adding contents for it, haven't done any SEO yet. But according to WMT, there are a few keywords ranking from 200 to 30, but not my target keywords :|
