Depends on many factors for example:

- quality of your backlinks
- how long your website exists already
- if you used a expired or brand new domain
- quality, length and amount of your content
- your competition

The question can't be answered easily. No one can tell you how long it will take and if they do, be sure they have no idea what they are talking about. There are just too many things to consider. I ranked websites within 2 weeks for a new keyword, but it took me also to rank 4 months for another more competitive keywords.

What I can tell you is: Just keep up building quality links - your websites rankings will increase in the long run. Keep in mind your anchor ratio. Try to get traffic from social media as well. Make it look natural, means don't throw 20x web2.0 in one day and then don't build a single link for two weeks. Velocity and link diversity are very important.

I can't be bothered arguing with all of the people who talk about sandboxes and 2 - 3 months etc, but I built a brand new site on a brand new domain a little over 3 weeks ago, and it is ranking in the top 100 for 74 keywords, and the top 10 for 3 already.

The terms are easy - medium, and 500 - 1500 monthly searches.

One of the pages is 5 days old and it ranks on page 1 for its main keyword already, which gets 500 monthly searches.

For what it's worth, I consider my self somewhere between shit and average at SEO, so those aren't special results.

Thanks man. such a releif

Since this thread popped up.I am coming back with a new answer after learning quite a bit.

new sites do seem to have an age barrier that they have to cross in order to hit the front page and stay on the front page. With what I have seen, different keywords take different times.

easy info keywords can rank front page in about 2 months. Harder or higher volume keywords tend to take about 3-4 months. This is with no link building.

I also stated that there is no google sandbox. But since I made that comment a long time ago, I have since learned that there seems to be a sandbox or age barrier for sure.

building strong quality links does overcome this though.. but I recommend against it

I’m confused by what you are asking. Tough keywords if on page is perfect, take about 3-4 months to rank as high as they ever will without links.

For a new site, with no domain authority
- competitive keywords - 8 months - 16 months at least
- low or no competition keywords - 4 months - 6 months

For a old website that has med - high domain authority

- competitive keywords - 5 - 9 months
- if done properly a website with authority can dominate 1st 2nd and 3rd results
low or no competition keywords - 3 - 6months

For more info feel free to PM me :D

Recent statistic, one of new wordpress website went to index in 3 weeks, another one with almost SAME niche - 6 months only 1-2 keywords in top100, why is that, cannot see any reason. Pure lottery in my case
