How long does a site take to rank

The question can't be answered easily. No one can tell you how long it will take and if they do, be sure they have no idea what they are talking about. There are just too many things to consider. I ranked websites within 2 weeks for a new keyword, but it took me also to rank 4 months for another more competitive keywords.

What I can tell you is: Just keep up building quality links - your websites rankings will increase in the long run. Keep in mind your anchor ratio. Try to get traffic from social media as well. Make it look natural, means don't throw 20x web2.0 in one day and then don't build a single link for two weeks. Velocity and link diversity are very important.

new sites do seem to have an age barrier that they have to cross in order to hit the front page and stay on the front page. With what I have seen, different keywords take different times.

easy info keywords can rank front page in about 2 months. Harder or higher volume keywords tend to take about 3-4 months. This is with no link building.

I also stated that there is no google sandbox. But since I made that comment a long time ago, I have since learned that there seems to be a sandbox or age barrier for sure.

building strong quality links does overcome this though.. but I recommend against it
