7zip? Well, you can't really "compress" big files. You can ZIP them which will decrease the size for coupleof %... For videos, you can use "Handbrake" very useful tool to compress video sizes

Compacting huge amounts of data files with "/dev/null" works miracles. Makes for automatic parity backups as well, so it's safe to erase the big files afterwards.

Agree. Great tip.
But my personal favorite is neither 7zip or dev/null, but format. Works wonders on PC, not really on OSX though
