[QUESTION] What is the best file compression software for you?

I was wondering so that i can buy or torrent it. i need a file compression software that is efficient in reducing massive file sizes.

7zip? Well, you can't really "compress" big files. You can ZIP them which will decrease the size for coupleof %... For videos, you can use "Handbrake" very useful tool to compress video sizes

I'm using 7zip because it's free & really easy to use. I have 7zip for zipping and Winrar to opening archives I think 7zip is defenitely better for zipping

Compacting huge amounts of data files with "/dev/null" works miracles. Makes for automatic parity backups as well, so it's safe to erase the big files afterwards.

OP, 7zip is good and easy to use for basic stuff. How big are the files?

@OP 7ZIP - Handbrake are the picks I'd suggest. Compression is a dicey proposition - the /dev/null route seems like a little overkill for this guy.

Agree. Great tip.

But my personal favorite is neither 7zip or dev/null, but format. Works wonders on PC, not really on OSX though

Cracked versions are fine too.

Thanks. Just a question tho. i tried to zip my folder with lots of pictures in it. the size of the folder is 6.98gb and when i tried to zip it using 7zip, it got compressed to 6.96 gb. theres just 2mb difference. why is it so? by the way. i used the ultra compression.

+1 for 7zip and for videos, i vouch for Handbrake

Love 7z. Very easy to use and works pretty well. I definitely find it easier to use than winrar.
