Myspace Threatens to Sue Me

Hey everyone, I brought this story up earlier today in BHW's vent server, so some of you may already be familiar with my situation.

I thought it would be easier to keep everyone updated on the situation by posting on this thread, and I'm sure it'll be very interested for some to follow.

First things first, I have a movie site and I drive traffic to it via trailers, and I upload these trailers to YouTube, Myspace, Dailymotion, ect. Before visitors are able to watch the movie they must complete an offer to gain access to the locked page, which I lock via BHCB.

Anyways, last night my AM contacted me via email and said Myspace reported to my CPA company that I was spamming them, but did not say how. I'm guessing it's the videos they found, but my AM did not know all the details at the time and said it could be anything. Frankly I did not know uploading videos and sending traffic to my site with Myspace was so frowned upon, but apparently Myspace wants to hit this hard. My AM told me they will most likely sue.

The fishy part about it was that he told me they are going to sue for all the money I gained from having my visitors fill out this offer. That doesn't make sense because Myspace isn't entitled to this money, I'm not stealing money from Myspace, so either they are money hungry bastards, or my AM is lying. You decide for yourselves.

I was trippin balls earlier when my AM first contacted me, scared to death of getting sued, but I hopped on vent and explained the situation to some and they calmed me down. I am supposed to hear from my AM tomorrow more about what is going to happen, but my AM made the sue sound like it was going to happen.

The conclusion we came to was that they were trying to scare me to death to get me to admit I was blackhatting, because I think there was some suspicion. (I didn't cover my tracks very well, i.e- I was converting at 50% and didn't send any junk traffic.. I know dumb)

So basically I made this thread because it can teach a useful lesson either way. If nothing happens to me and I get away with this, I'm still getting banned because I admitted to my AM about my blackhatting. So the lesson is don't admit to your AM you're blackhatting if he tries to scare you with some bogus story. On the contrary, if I do get in trouble with Myspace, some people might think twice about spam and Myspace.

I'll be sure to report back tomorrow.

I never thought to check my Myspace accounts or the emails correlated with them. I've had a few Myspace accounts, so I checked two of the Yahoo accounts I signed up with at Myspace. Neither of them had any emails about videos being removed due to inappropriate content nor did I get any emails regarding bans from Myspace.

As for a c&d, I'm not quite sure what that is, but I haven't received any fishy letters at my house for any of this.

The more and more that I think about this, the more fishy it seems. If Myspace cared to sue me, I'm sure I'd receive a letter of some sort about it. I don't think that kind of information just gets relayed through a CPA network.

I think I just need to stop promoting non-incents on my site and stick with incents although they don't pay as much.

AM = full of shit. A company like myspace wouldnt just 'send an email' ..
they would have sent a certified letter from their attourney stating whats what....

I agree with the above post.. dont worry about it. find a new CPA company. continue your current plan. THis time send junk traffic ... you were prolly converting high and that set off red flags.

Yeah, I was dumb and didn't fully cover my tracks.. didn't register domains privately, and blanked traffic for the longest time rather than faking it.

I'm surprised they held me as long as they did though, they sent me like 3 bank wires on 50% conversion rates, but I'm sure they just finally said forget it, this guy has to be doing something wrong.

To me so far I believe that Myspace are kind of greedy because all of a sudden they decide to sue you over a little marketing tactic.
I'm not sure what you mean by AM.

I guess they are going against you because maybe you allow people to complete offers for something which they can get it for free elsewhere.

Back in the days when I didn't know any better I used to spam heaps in Myspace and the only thing they did was deleted my account which was frustrating.
Lately the only bad thing that has happened was that I got my account put on hold because they had a suspicion of me spamming.

Seriously I'm not sure what's up with Myspace these days or any other social media site.
I mean good on them that they are preventing spam taking your situation under consideration it seems like they are taking things too far and probably looking for an excuse to make a fast buck.

I'm thinking this whole thing was a set up by my AM to get me to admit I was blackhatting. He hasn't contacted me today, and my acc was locked/deleted. I think it was a lesson learned, don't fall for you're AM's stupid shit
