Does it matter if tumblrs and other web 2.0s for that matter are niche specific? Or should I just get a high PA Web 2.0s only?

Are you asking about expired web 2.0s? Or fresh ones?

Fresh ones don't really have any niche at all. With expired ones, the selection can be limited based on what's available to be registered; while it's ideal to have niche-related ones, you should take everything good that you can get.

Also, PA and DA are mostly garbage; they're based entirely or almost entirely on link volume, which means that terrible spammed domains can have a high PA. TF is a better metric; you can also look directly at the backlink profiles of potential expired web 2.0s.

Too many people are asking for niche related expired web2.0's.

The thing is that most expired web2.0's are not niche specific. There are few people that start a tumblr, for example, in health niche that after a few months or years will delete the blog willingly. Keep in mind that only blogs that are deleted willingly by their owners are made available for registration. At least on platforms like tumblr and weebly.

You can check how many live blogs are in a particular niche with something like:

site:.tumblr.com health -tagged

If you don't see at least 2-3 millions results, don't bother. You will most likely end up with a lousy 'niche' related expired tumblr, no matter what metric you prefer to use.

On another note
from my testings and from clients experience, there are no clear difference in rankings between using niche specific or random niche expired web2.0's.

So don't complicate things when it comes to expired web2.0's.
Get them. Post some content. Make sure they get indexed. Post your link.

PA web 2.0 links are not good for your main site, you can try them for tier 2 links.

Exactly what @MatthewGraham and @mindmaster said. Niche relevancy is oftentimes overkill with domains, let alone with web 2.0s. Feel free to completely disregard it. Some web 2.0s, like Tumblr for example, are and always will be spammy. You literally can't determine a niche there based on backlinks. So really, pick some with nice metrics, brandable name if you need it and go for it. Nothing more is necessary.

It's generally a waste to keep posting on your Tumblrs after the initial setup. Build out something decently nice that will pass a manual spam review from the Tumblr moderators so that your domain doesn't get removed for looking like spam (because that would cause your backlink to disappear). Other than that, add your backlink (see footnote) and move on.

Making more posts over time isn't really going to help make that link any stronger, as far as Google's algorithms are concerned. Once you have the initial setup done, you're going to get the most bang for your buck by moving on to building the next one and forgetting about going back and micromanaging the old ones. If you want to rank for real, worthwhile keywords, you're building tens if not hundreds of these, to both specific landing pages and generally some to your homepage as well. It's way too much overhead for minimal or no additional value to keep adding content to and checking on old Tumblrs.

Footnote: Make sure that you set up your backlinks so that they are d0follow. Easiest way to do that on Tumblr is by putting them in the description. Depends on backlink profile and to some extent chance/luck. They sometimes get indexed right away. Sometimes can take days or weeks.

The web2.0's don't just expire. At least not on tumblr and weebly platform.

They either are banned and never made available. That is the main reason why there are so many 404 blogs that you can't register.
Or they get deleted by their owners. These are the ones that you can re-register.
