Ways to Get Fresh Ideas

Getting fresh materials to write about is a known struggle to many writers. This comes up especially if you are regularly posting on your blog/site. In order to get fresh ideas, one should read the news and explore the trending articles. Checking on the social media comments and lurking on forums can also help you give fresh ideas. How about you? What are your ways on how to get fresh ideas?

Loren

Hi Loren! Yes, it is quite difficult getting fresh ideas on what to write about and I find that hard to do when my mind is located elsewhere so what I do is rest my head for a bit. Once I'm refreshed, I focus on the task at hand then research, research and do more research.

i smoke a lot of weed and then go to bed while my brain is flying through space and i usually come up with some great ideas, but i need to write them down while i'm having the thought because i will forget it seconds after.

I try to find as many ideas as possible during the week. I try to watch the news a lot and search through social media, mostly Instagram and Facebook. Sometimes I find some interesting topics on Twitter too, but that rarely happens. Also, ads can be quite helpful, magazines, even conversations I have with people on a daily basis.

For content 'substance' ideas, I go to Quora for inspiration

For structure (just as important as substance), I go to udemy and Wikipedia. Reddit is good too.

Google is getting smarter and smarter. Stay several steps ahead by using HUMAN logical 'analogs.'

Quora is probably one of the best places to get ideas since people usually go there for questions. I agree there are many websites available right now to get your ideas.

Yes, you need to have a fresh mind in order to get fresh ideas. Being stressed can make your mind cloudy. Thanks for your input.

It would be quora most of the time, coz of the value added by real users most of the time. You get the direct answers even some sites or mentions that have the exact answer to the queried question will help you to get the most updated info. A more precise google, I would say.

That's true. Doing research on the right websites can be really helpful in formulating new ideas.

3. When I need ideas for new viral content:

https://watchmojo.com/

https://pinterest.com/categories/popular/

4. When I need to adapt an idea to my project/website I use the lateral thinking method: I try to combine two non-related (or random) ideas together.
To make resulting ideas more interesting/viral I try to combine contradicting ideas (paradoxes, etc..), this way I add some pattern interrupts.

I agree that the news is a hot place for ideas. No matter what you can always spark an idea from the news.

I usually read the news, but sometimes it comes from unexpected sides. Sitting in the office i can hear some dialog and idea comes to my brain :)

Reddit and Quora are my favorite methods. Also good old fashioned magazines and newspapers!

For myself who do some SEO tactic. I always look at my stat and see what is the keyword or topic is coming then I start order article follow the stat. Stat come first and new Idea come second.

Reddit is great if you want recent topics. r/AskReddit is almost always buzzing with new and interesting topics. Take those and build them up into something you can write about. If not reddit, writing about the most trending things on twitter not only helps in using fresh topics but is interesting to read since it sheds light on recent events.
