Can't grow my YT vlogging channel

Hey guys! I started doing weekly vlogging the first week of November and while my first video did well for having nearly no subscribers (mostly friends and some small crossover from my IG), everything after has dropped.

I have gained nearly no new subs, (stuck at around 50) views have dipped noticeably, and same with likes and comments. I feel like for a amateur vlog, my content is of good quality and it will only get better with each upload I make. I'm no Casey Neistat, but I'm trying!

I'd really appreciate any help here. I'm not trying to monetize as any priority, but I am trying to grow quicker than its current slow crawl. Quality subs and views are my priority.

I'm using tags, doing my best naming the vlogs, making interesting (I hope) thumbnails, and mentioning this on my IG a ton, but it's not helping.

my suggestion will be use good and eye catchy thumbnail.you can also try clickbait thumbnai..
my vlogging channel has already crossed 8k
 
As I see it, your only problem is lack of social proof. Try to vlog about new trends and share everywhere: forums, facebook groups, reddit, etc...
 
Just keep going. Make challenges and optimize your videos properly for those (learn YouTube SEO while you wait for a new trend/challenge to jump onto).

I think the best thing to do is to
1. Always keep an eye out for the latest trends on YouTube, jump on fast and get subscribers that turns into viewers on all your stuff.
2. Make sure you know what type of YouTube you want to be, do you want to do vlogs? Then use the challenge videos to get more subscribers that hopefully start to like your personality (out of the few minutes I saw, you seem pretty likable, so that shouldn't be a concern).
3. Keep going no matter what.

A lot of people have a few thousand subscribers for years until one video blows up and boom they're getting spread like crazy. Be out there and make as many videos as possible, while remaining the quality, and you'll be good.

Try to set up automatic alerts on Google Alerts for "new YouTube challenge", "new YouTube trend", "latest YouTube trend" and stuff like that. But of course, keeping up and following a bunch of people in the community should be enough.

Be different. Anybody can go to a place with nice scenery and make clean edits, play background music and slap together a 5 minute video. They're nice vids, but things like that will lose the attention of the average person surfing the internet.

Your Youtube viewers have to fall in love with you and your story/lifestyle. Less music and shots of the scenery, more talking and content of your daily life. I used to occasionally watch a guy named Romanatwood a few years ago, and I was (and still am) amazed at how this guy has amassed such a huge following. Sure, he does interesting things but most of his vlog content was his boring family life and kids at home, yet people still watched. His viewers fell in love with his personality and his family, and the the views kept pouring in.

So my advice would be to 1) make your videos longer (preferably whole day in 10 - 15 minutes) 2) talk more and show your personality. Get good at telling stories and adding organic comedy to your vlogs. Share your life with the viewers and make them feel like they're with you on the journey, but at the same time try to avoid rambling about things that you would expect most people to get bored of.

Lastly, if you do get good at all the other things and you can captivate people, you need to go viral and amass a few thousand/tens of thousands of viewers. I would try to find an interesting topic or story of your life to share with your viewers. Obviously stuff like clickbait helps get you viewers initially, but retention and expansion is more important. You don't want to be a one hit wonder. And like Hekke said, keep going because you never know when you can blow up and change your life.

edit: A guy you should check out on YT is "Lost LeBlanc" with 400K subs. He is a travel vlogger, I feel like he is the type of creator you want to become, and he's quite successful.

A few things though - I'm not interested doing anything click bait related or hopping on any trends. That's not really who I am or what I want my channel to be. I mostly want to do fun adventure and travel vlogs. I'm aware that this can stifle growth, but if others could do it, I'm hoping I can as well.

And yes, I'm aware that I only have a small handful of videos, but I am not looking to get a ton of subs out of nowhere, my concern was mostly from the lack of progress off my tiny success of my first vlog. I was under the impression that you should grow with every upload, little by little. As my numbers have dipped so much after my first, I wanted to check with you guys to make sure I wasn't being an idiot about anything obvious.

I made one vlog that was 10 minutes long and I also feel like it was my weakest one. I'll try to make longer vlogs as I get more comfortable with filming and eiditing them (I'm still learning to edit as I go). I wasn't aware this was so important. Does it help with being ranked in their search algorithm?

And funny you mentioned Los LeBlanc - youtube just recommended I watch him today haha...

What about daily shorts (1-2 minutes) and weekly long videos? Not that hard if you really have passion.

Thanks! And yeah, I'm actually thinking of posting twice a week. One long video and one short. I'm currently editing on of the shorts to see how it turned out. My main concern is lack of content. I work a lot on a job that doesn't allow cameras anywhere, coupled with me not wanting to do very personal vlogs, makes me feel like if I stick to once a week adventure vlogs, I won't get any growth.

Youtube is not just limited to uploading videos and waiting for subs to come. Your every new video will bring some traffic and some subs, and after a while nothing.
You should try creating longer videos not just for your audience but for some good money. You said you are not looking to monetize them ,you should.
Try sharing your video to social media platforms.
 
I am no YouTube expert, the only tip I could give you as a viewer is work on your thumbnail game. your last two thumbnails aren't eye catching at all and I don't even feel the 'minimum desire' to enter your video, just because of the thumbnail. Look at what other successful vloggers are doing, learn that and add something of your own. or don't.

I would use different tracks than those generic vlog songs (at-least just for the parts that you are speaking)
Focus on letting your viewers connect to your personality and develop some kind of passion to you and your videos. Only my two cents from a viewer's perspective.

You have some dope content to that all I can say is keep it up.
I’m gonna be straight up. No vlogging channel has exploded in the first month as of this year, it’s very rare. Just keep doing some dope shit that people can’t do themselves or can’t be bothered. Basically live the dream others are hoping for, you can live that dream very easily just make it seem what you did was only a minority can do. I’d say your thumbnails could be improved a lot as I’m, less words more pictures. In vlogs no one gives a shit about wordy thumbnails, just photos man. Take incredible photos. That’s all there is to it my man.
If you be patient and do what I said along with what your doing already, sharing on ig and other socials mid 2018 you’ll see tremendous growth.
And one more thing, as of now your main focus should be entertaining your CURRENT audience, don’t even think about other people watching your videos as your current viewers are your golden nuggets. They will get you the more views due to word of mouth and video retention because they are so invested in you.

The content is fine. It's pretty good actually but honestly you're just being impatient upload one video a week for a year THEN you can say you're not growing. Your channel is growing fast for a vlog. the fastest growth happens with Prank, clickbait, and reaction channels.
 
Just like and subscribe you channel, got this as inspiration to grow it up, goodluck man.
 
ill give you a few advices, first off your first video i watched and tbh it grabbed my attention this is comedy vlog and the niche seems great.
I think like many said your custom thumbnails are not matching your content, try to look at herman drost, steve dotto tech and also darrel evens pro youtube expert channels they got a picture of them selves on right and text on left, no one is using yellow text all using blue or professional color text, your thumbnails doesnt show your face lacks consistency and has yellow text which makes it look like gaming niche.
2nd in this niche i think u need subscribers real subscribers, i didnt see channel trailer or on your banner saying your upload schedule these are both important factor people like consistent content creators take example of watch mojo that say we upload new videos every day you should say this at start of every video when you gonna upload your content.
3rd post your videos all of em in Reddit r/youtubers there apply for review video section for that you need to do reviews of two videos on same day of getting review for your own youll get promoted but not only that you might get some good advice.
4th after getting like 4 to 5 videos out go to traffic sources in analytics see what people searching for in search tab when they find your content and stick to that niche, a proper direction is needed now to put a proper theme on your proper direction.
5th go for journeys niche like my journey to 500 subscribers and give tips and tricks on how to grow your youtube channel in that
6th try to make playlists and post on your channel which should have your videos dont worry even if initially it has one video this gonna boost your views and also give good impression on your channel
