Hi all.
I would like to give from my knowledge and experience for those who are entering this world of sites buying and selling. I will relate to Flippa as it was a marketplace I was following for some time but it could refer to any marketplace and to making online business in general.
I will divide my conclusions into two sections: Starter sites and Established sites.
Starter sites:
Many new sites sold for 50$-200$.
The sellers tells you it will be an auto pilot money maker, with an investment of 20 seconds of your time daily.
All those sites are full of duplicated content, and this content will never rank for you on any search engine. so forget about organic trafic.
So you could tell yourself, ohhh so I will just put some links in social media and my site will be a hit.
At the worst case I will just make few hundreds bucks.
So, No! these sites are at such a competitive niche, like flights, hotels, sports gaming. there are so many sites out there, that are much better than the ones you just wasted 200$ on.
Looking at the listings of the top sellers on Flippa, the ones who sold thousands of these sites, will tell you this: most of the sites they sold few months to few years ago are not active!
Someone bought a dream for 200$ and woke up from that dream very quickly.
However, if you are aware of all of that, and you just want a content site and willing to invest in good content, backlinks and whatsoever, so go for it. But forget about the easy passive income that was promised to you!
Established sites:
Now this is not a joke! the 200$ bucks you would loose in the previous section may become a very painful loss of thousands of dollars!
Just read this section and other threads on this forum, and you won't have enough paper to wipe all the tears that were cried here. so beware!
One thing you need to bear in mind, is that no one, but no one will sell a duck that lays golden eaggs!
If I had a site that makes 50 bucks a month, why would I sell it for 500 bucks?
If I had a site that makes 1000$ a month, would I sell it for 5000$?
Yeah yeah, they will all tell you "They are working on a new project" , "They have a new baby"
"They are making so much money from their other sites that they cannot take care of this poor site that makes only 1k a month" , really someone should make the top 10 funny excuses for why I'm selling my website that makes millions!
OK back to the subject. I ran some analysis on these established site. and found many of them not having traffic even close to what promised by the seller.
Looking in internet archive shows they were new sites.
Their low bounce rate shows that most of the visitor were bots.
Of course there are also legit sites with real users and real income. but just be careful.
Lastly, my heart goes out for those poor people on this forum that got scammed. the transferred the money for the site and didn't get the domain transfer. the seller stopped answering their messages and so on....
Its important to say. that site flipping may pay off, and could be a good thing, weather in Flippa or other places. but just be careful. consult with people here. don't transfer money to anyone before what is promised is at your possession.
I hope this post will help people to avoid painful mistakes.
Thank you for reading!
