Woocommerce or Shopify

Well I've gone with woocommerce this time around and this is my first woocommerce site, I can easily see why a lot of people prefer shopify over woo, at the very beginning I had a bit of problem but as for now I feel I have a grasp over a lot of the functions and features and thing I'm loving the most is no more recurring payments for plugins xD

woocommerce is free but its plugins are lack and expensive whether Shopify cost 29$ per month but it has a lot of useful plugins with much cheaper price.

Woocommerce for sure. I had used shopify for 3 months and then changed all the things to woocommerce, shopify is just for non-tech guys, its just like woocommerce lite version, lack of functions.
If you want to build a serious business, go to woocommerce.

I'm basically going to echo a lot of the sentiment that other Woocommerce fans have already stated. Yes, Shopify is easier to use, however it is extremely limited and you'll be paynig a TON of monthly fees for a well tuned store. Were talking $300+ on top of Shopify fees + if you want a custom theme, that's another $180.

Almost all major e-retailers use Woocommerce or Magento for their large scale ecomm stores. Not to say that you'll be competing with those big guys, but there is a major reason why most large retail merchants use these two platforms.........because they are highly customizable and have unlimited potential as to what they can accomplish.

Woocommerce offers more plugins, more themes, more customizations, full control over what you sell (Shopify has restrictions on this) and really too many other reasons to list.

Woocommerce is free, themes are MUCH cheaper, there are many FREE plugins and premium plugins are a one time payment and VERY cheap.


Overall......If you want to build a serious business, go to woocommerce. If you want to quickly put up a store and simply sell 10 items or so, then Shopify may be your best bet for the moment, but you'll soon find yourself "outgrowing" the platform.

If you are serious about your business then try Woocommerce. I personally, do not like it when I go to random dropshipping stores and I can tell from the get-go "oh, this one is shopified". Woocommerce is Shopify on steroids... and if you want Woocommerce on steroids then probably you should try Magento or some other platform specially designed for e-commerce.

I’d try Shopify for something new and lower scale, but WooCommerce for its flexibility and later development options. Just my personal view

Even if you don't know anything about php/wp you can get coders to help you so easily and so cheap. Your money goes 10x further with woocommerce. Also,.,.. is it really that difficult to set up??

Yes, I agree woocommerce is way better than having a shopify store if you want a long-term stable shop. Shopify has monthly payment of up to $107 for their premium account. Wordpress is cheap and you can get discounts in any hosting sites which can last for like 3 years for about $3 only per month.

I would suggest Shopify to new users and Woocommerce to advanced users, in longer run woocommerce is better.

Google "ecommerce platform market share". There are several press releases and case studies showing the percentages.'
No one is going to give you a list of sites as that is considered private information.

Personally I use shopify because it saves me a lot of time, but I do hate seeing a shopify charge hit my account several times a month. After reading this thread I'm definitely going to look into how I can migrate some of them over to woocommerce and give it a try.

If you end up going with Woocommerce you can implement SSL to secure your traffic for free using Lets Encrypt or Cloudflare.

I asked the same question many months ago. What I concluded was, Shopify if you don't want the headache and if you have good volumes so the 75 bucks a month is a small price to pay... and woocommerce if you need a lot of customizations, and you don't mind spending 100s a month on server costs and a tech to help you everytime the db fails.

Market share is different from large volume sites using the platform. From what I can gather, there're tons of large volume sites using shopify and doing really well with them.
