I have my 9 year old branded website domain which sells a WordPress plugin. A few years ago I acquired an exact match domain for my keywords word1word2plugin.com

How should I use this exact match domain?

I think I have 2 options:

1. Rebrand my plugin with the EMD and sell on that site itself as I do on the branded domain's site.

2. Build a site with many landing pages which links to the branded domain site. I feel like this would have a lower sales conversion rate though.

Easy.. 1. rebrand and redirect your old domain to the EMD :)

Redirecting will be good.

You actually want to take a step backwards here. Brandable domain is a way to go. EMDs are... a thing of the past that are definitely not worth the trouble you would have to face here. Second option is fine. Rank multiple properties for your keywords and you will get more traffic. You can either set up a shop on the EMD as well or simply redirect the traffic to your branded site.

If your branded website domain works fine, no need to rebrand. Use option 2, and you could even sell other plugins from it.

Why not build a second site, totally different theme, layout etc and rank both of them ?
