Doesn't matter, this is to build the trust of your website, so if CNN wants to give you a live you won't accept it because it is nofollow ?

A lot of guys in this forum doesn't even build trust before sending PBN links towards their website, I want at least 1 link from Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Youtube etc... I don't care if those links are nofollow I'm no using them to rank only to build trust.

Link from CNN it's not the same as a link from a social profile. Having those kinds of links you are speaking of in your backlink profile is one thing. Boosting them with PBNs is another thing. Since you speak about trust.. pointing links from unknown low authority PBN domains to free accessible nofollow properties on high authority domains won't help much in the search of ''trust''...

Well, I like to test crazy ideas, but even that's too much 7$ WSO #1 traffic hack ripoff for me..

Do you understand the idea behind picking up a super easy ranking on page 3-5 and using exact anchor text from a decent PBN? Like I said around 40% PBNs gave a positive effect. Please see a screenshot how it looks like.

A jump from position 17 to position 6/7

I monitored this KW in ahrefs before linking out to it and it was on position around 20 for the previous 5 months. So it was obviously an impact coming from my PBN link.

And like I said all of the testing KWs are pretty similar (all easy) and all of my PBNs are the same strong. Some just work, others no matter what don't

What was the exact match rate before? That can be a factor.

The domain you're linking to might be the issue.

I don"t link with any keywords from my PBNs, instead, I used naked or branded. Only exact match anchors I use are internal, even then, I use generic more.

Guys it was a test to see if they have any ranking impact. Each PBN was linking out to a different domain. I picked up super easy KW that an inner page was ranking for on page 3-5 and tried to rank it using exact match KW.

There is nothing to talk about footprints here.

Did you honestly think 1 link from 1 site would move rankings nowadays?

So, we have a case a study where the OP sent a whopping 1 pbn links and didn't see improvements for some of the keywords

And some believe the problem is the lack of using facebook and social evidence, or using expired domains as he should buy fresh ones....

there are many factors to take into account when ranking and you can't make the assumption only based on 1 test and especially not because of a single link. yes it might do your rank good because of other factors that come together, but send the exact same link to another domain and it might not perform so well. otherwise you could always just copy all links from the competition + some more and beat their rank (though that can work lol).
you need to run several similar tests at the same time to get an idea and enough data. even then you can't take your own conclusions for granted yet unless whatever you are doing works so well that you can repeat it easily and always rank. then you are on to something, otherwise its just guess work

google put some filters on those expired domains because they can find out they are being used as PBNs.

If google finds out the domains are being used as PBN, it's unlikely the domains will survive or it will get deindexed eventually. Don't you think?

I'd suggest you to push more links to it even if it's in super low competition and then see how it goes.

Ex: For more information about your_keywords, visit domain.com
Google understand what keywords you're trying to rank.

I am afraid not everyone understood the results I got and nature of this test. I used 20 PBNs for this test and each one was linking out to a different domain so IP address has nothing to do here. Linking out started after at least 35 days once the PBN got indexed. All of them are pretty similar in terms of link profile and potential ranking power.

I was testing each one by linking to a test site. The test site was chosen with the following criteria:
1. It is an established site
2. It is an inner article
3. This article is ranking somewhere between usually 3-6 page (sometimes I picked 2nd page and sometimes 8th)
4. This KW is extremely easy
5. This particular page does not receive any links
6. The ranking position for this KW did not change during the last 3 months

I found out around 40% of my PBNs gave a positive results. Please see the screenshot below:

Each PBN test site was repeated 2-3 times and I always get the same results

And around 60% of my PBNs gave no results at all. I retested them also 2-3 times and it never had a positive results.



In such a case we can clearly state that a PBN either works or not. There is no such thing that: 1 PBN is not enough to see results - these KWs are so extremely easy that there should be some impact. However it turns out those PBNs have no effect at all. Been messing with them for almost 2 years, set up over 100 PBNs this year and gets me more and more confused. I believe there must be some filters applied to expired domains that google removes all of the link juice (all pbns indexed)

OP, you probably should by $10 PBN links from Fiverrrr to test if your super easy keywords will move or not, for comparision's sake.

Well like I said I've built over 100 pbns this year, and even more last year. I always test them before using for my MS. The results I get with the positive ones are insane. Unfortunately the passing test ratio becomes lower and lower.

Regarding PBNs set-up - it is very simple and definitely does not look like a real site. It would NEVER pass a manual review but this is not the case as they should still work no matter how they visually look like. 40% of my PBNs work just fine which is a proof that the visual aspect is not that important (again - manual review and deindexation risk in another case!).

The issue here is why some PBNs work as expected however others no matter what have no influence on ranking at all!

I have a theory that we need to imitate as little changes as possible compared to the previous version of a PBN (how it looked before it was dropped) however it is a matter of my actual testings. Anyhow if someone has some experience on this field (not just speculations) I will gladly discuss and share my strategies.

I am testing my PBN as well, 10 expired domains, linked to my MS straight away, no over one month waiting..
Now, 3 kws I targeted are jumping up a lot, but sometimes dancing.
urls still not all indexed, only two or three indexed, I will see how kws perform, once all urls indexed..

So, you have a 40% rate of successfully picking a domain?

There are still too many variables to make a guess like "well Google must be doing x"

You're very critical of people who are looking to read more into your test, so what is your conclusion?

If 40% of your test sites showed improvement then clearly Google is not devaluing all PBNs, so there has to be a reason why the other 60% didn't work.

Some of the guys who have posted here are trying to get to the bottom of that reason, but you seem very defensive and unwilling to accept that there could have been problems with the test that you didn't consider.

If you're not willing to accept that there could have been any issues with the domains, hosting, etc etc, then what is your explanation for the fact that some improved and others didn't?

Google simply rolls a dice as to whether a link should be effective or not?

Doing the test is all well and good, but you need to be prepared to have it critiqued and to be critical about it yourself. Think about the reasons behind what you have observed.
