Should our focus be on Trust or Citation flow?

Hi there,

Been a lurker for some time. Now I've got a real question that I cannot seem to find the answer for.
I've read a lot about Domain Trust and Citation Flow metrics. Use Moz, Majestic, Hrefs and so on (not an expert by a long shot).

Perhaps someone smart can point me in the right direction or give me some insights in how this actually works..

Example:

Domain 1: Trustflow: 50, Citation flow: 40, referring domains: 80 (ranking number 2 organic)
Domain 2: Trustflow: 30, Citation flow: 41, referring domains: 120 (ranking number 1 organic)

In the real life scenario Domain 2 ranks organic number 1 .

My main issue with these numbers is that when looking at the Trustflow and and Citation flow my logic (don't know if it's correct, prob not) i'm guessing that the focus for domain 1 should be on getting links from websites with a high trustflow. A higher trustflow means you need less domains to rank high.

Another view would be to look at these number and take a guess that domain 1 should get links from high Citation flow pages to outrank domain 2.

The reason i'm confused is that Domain 1 has been ranking number 1 for 5 years in a row. (without any major linkbuilding/changes). To give you an example. The domain 1 has mostly links from citation and trust flow +15. and the domain 2 has the majority from a lower citation flow. I am aware that on-page seo might be something to look into.

In this case above I would say that quantity goes over quality? Or should I read the stats above like: your citation flow is less so your page ranks lower.. It's that simple?

What would you guys focus on besides doing the obvious copying of the domain 2 backlinks?

Any helps / insights would be appreciated.

So you suggest, getting links with a high Trust Flow, do you prioritize links further with a high citation first?

And any input on why domain 2 would rank higher based on the numbers shown?

You see, if I filter links with a high Trust Flow, it gives me (on the top) links with a high citation flow automatically.

As for numbers shown, it is necessary to emphasize, that your example is just a single case, not confident statistics. I would not meditate on this too much.

I would say both of them. Check out facebook on majestic and other very important stuff.

I think both should be close to equal as it should be a proper ratio.. for eg dont go for something with tf - 10 and cf - 2

Citation is easy to pump up, but trust flow is more tricky, so I would be focusing on trust flow. However, in your example there may be a greater depth of reasonable trust flow domains pointing to no.2, but only a few for no.1. No.1 has fewer linking domains but also consider
has anything been disavowed from either example?
has no.2 got better content, better structure?
has no.1 got a higher ratio of 'poor' links?
...and on.

There are so many variables. Trust flow is a guess at Google but you still can't go wrong with developing links from domains/pages that present themselves with a reasonable trust flow, it's a good target.

get ahrefs. and work with that.

even if, the only valuable in that majestic garbage would be TF.
and that can easily be inflated to TF30 and above with some bunch of NF coments on high TF sites. just wait a few months...

It alll depends on niches and rrf. majestic , moz , ahrefs all of them have their own values. Why not to spy your competition with all of them and follow the unique algo methods for your very specific niche ? Even that there should be a chance with luck too.

I use ahrefs for lot of things. Not a big fan of majestic.

I think you should focus on trust flow links and referring domains too. This will help to raise your ranking in SERP page.
