If it is important (or not) to use correct grammar depends highly upon what you're writing for. If you're taking a college English class, then yes... they are going to break your balls. If you're talking about writing a historical documentary, then yes... you should probably use perfect grammar. If, however, you are writing a fictional book that is merely for amusement I see no reason why grammar should get in the way of the writing's art form. And if you read most new releases in fiction you will see that many professional writers take great liberty. And forums... forget about it....

All this said, there is probably no down side to realizing and correcting any major flaws you might have in your grammar. Though things like not ending sentences with a preposition are VERY hard to do since everyone seems to do it all the time. So I suppose the general question you should ask yourself is: "Does this mistake make me look stupid/uneducated?" If the answer in your own mind is "yes" then take the effort to correct yourself.

Why do the Colleges care so much about grammar? I'd prefer to look stupid to the masses. Hell, I usually wear shirts with holes in them and fool people into thinking I'm homeless.

Yeah because you could have some random thing happen to you at any time. A brain aneurysm, car crash, cancer, shot, run over, carbon monoxide leak, etc.

Imagine if you were dying.... would you regret your improper grammar, pissing off someone, etc. or would you regret not just going balls to the wall after your main goals in life....?

There are a lot of trolls on BHW but atleast at the end of the day, they know they're just trolling and not as thick as they portray themselves. However, it's completely different with you, I've seen your post since the day you started your journey. I signed up for a few transcription jobs and am in the process of brushing up on my grammar. Almost every blog I come across talks about proper grammar usage. Many of these blogs are written by one or two snobby grammar nazis critiquing improper writing. They must be forgetting one important rule of language. If the person you are speaking to understands what you are saying, then you are doing your job well enough, me thinks.

Who do these people think they are? It always rubs me the wrong way when grammarians act like they know the English language better than anyone else. Maybe I write a certain and informal way just to spite them? I must be doing it on a subconscious level. I normally know when I write incorrectly, but do it regardless~. You could say that I've always had a problem with authority.

Look at Terry Pratchett; one of the most well-known satirical fantasy writers. He knew the English language like I know the best money making guides for Runescape. Even so, he still loved to use sentence fragments. Quite. A lot. Actually.

Should I be as upset about this as I am? Maybe I need to take a break from reading shit online today. Gonna go listen to some music.

I've got 6 months ESL and am appalled by the fact that my domain of English is better than some native speakers (if you put prepositions aside). The use of punctuation is pretty much common sense as well as subject verb agreement. Saying that someone understands you and everything is OK is just a cop out for your laziness

I see that grammarists have come to this thread instead of normal rational thinkers. You guys are full of [insert expletive]. What's truly appalling is that you would sooner defend some schmuck who gets triggered by "gonna" instead of "going to", than to see how silly their arguments actually are. Country bumpkins rarely use correct grammar and spelling, yet they understand one another clearly. It seems that the only people confused by this are grammarians themselves.

I might even write a book one day about the etymology of the written word to emphasize how people back then weren't as anal about proper grammar. I might even find that it wasn't until the middle ages when royal families were expected to know how to read and write properly.

Hmm, on second thought maybe I do troll too much. It seems that few people actually see it as sarcasm and think I'm being serious with every one of my posts. I've been doing it for so many years that I myself don't even know who I am. I don't care about many things, but still end up complaining about them. What a shitty way to live.

As an example I lurked on sites like Stormfront and The Coli and learned the way they think. While I agree on some things they say - I don't believe there's a political solution to their ideologies.

For some reason it seems that @Sherbert Hoover tries to psychoanalyze my posts and thinks I'm being serious most of the time. That's why you shouldn't trust psychologists (esp. psychiatrists). Take everything people say with a grain of salt. Back on WarriorForum - I made the mistake of trusting some members and ended up getting nowhere.

I come to the Lounge to either vent my frustrations or to just mess around. I'm not here to learn because I've already spent months upon months reading the Making Money section. I haven't found anything that interests me yet, so I just make videos and write content.

I don't take money from people who want me to do it their way. I get paid to write my own way. Why else would I spend so much time writing? Everything I do revolves around doing things that'll benefit me somehow. You're right, if content writing was just about writing what people wanted, then I probably wouldn't even bother. But capitalism allows me to talk shit and still get paid for it.
