Is it that difficult to type one little word to let applicants know that you're no longer hiring?

Browsing through the forum, I couldn't help but notice that many members (not all) who open "For Hire" threads forget to close them. This leaves potential applicants wondering whether or not the OP is still looking to hire.

This results in ... "Are you still hiring?" "Did you find someone?" "Helloooo, please let me know" "Hey, I'm willing to reduce my rate" etc.

Letting people know that the OP is no longer in need of a service or closing the thread, is an important part of the hiring process. Simply put, it's common courtesy out of respect for others' time.

No hard feelings. Just speaking out about something that struck me as insensitive.

I agree with you.

I feel that if someone posts a thread seeking to hire someone that out of courtesy they should close the thread (or at least post a comment stating that they've founded and hired an applicant).

This will keep old threads from unnecessarily being bumped while saving job-seekers from wasting time applying for jobs that have already hired a member.

Yes you are right ...yesterday also this happened to me. I found two hiring request threads and I PM'ed them but those two didn't bother to give any reply yet....

Guy requests PM's or skype contact and the forum is left dangling.

I like that idea and I wish more people would do it. There's actually a request thread in the Freebies section about closing your giveaway once you're done with it. I can speak to an admin later and look into adding a similar thread or message in the Hire a Freelancer, Want To Buy, and JV sections. Of course, this doesn't guarantee anyone will adhere to it, but perhaps it will help in the meantime.

To get rid of the clutter in the giveaway section please report when your giveaway is over. You can either use the report post button or PM me or one of the other Mods for this section.

There's a lot of people who keep posting to dead threads so take the time to have your thread closed if you are no longer offering it.

While it may not be possible to ensure complete adherence, a similar request thread from a Mod, like the above in the Freebies Section, should certainly help.

Absolutely! It'll help job-seekers not waste their time and applicants have a right to know where they stand, without being left to question whether they've been rejected.
