What do you say to your haters?

I been making a full-time income online for a while now supporting myself, wife, and kid. I love my family and friends but I notice their are a lot of haters that think what I'm doing is only temporary. Every time I go to a family party I always get when are you going back to work? I just don't get why people don't understand working online is a real full-time job.

For those of you that make a full-time income online what do you tell your family and friends what you do? I swear people in my family think I'm doing something illegal because I will not show them my websites. Do you show your family your money websites or screenshots of how much money you make? I don't but sometimes I feel like being like those online entrepreneurs on YouTube showing screenshots of their earnings.

LOL! Your thread made me to think something similar with my life too.

10 years ago before i married same situation like you. we were VB developers with monthly salery. After left job almost all fellas we associate started to laughing at us. After all we had a great wedding in sri lanka and abroad to new jersey (where my parents live) even still we go back to SL to see friends & relations they still confusing about what we do. 90% of them are jealousy heads and 10% are confusing with what we do.
yet no one knows :D.

just live your life.
 
Next time you go to a family party, just start making derisive comments about their work life.
  • Hey, John! Still working in the beige cage I see!
  • Juan, what's going on!? How's the inbred social life working out for you?
You know, let them know how it feels.
 
Which obviously means they couldn't enjoy as comfort as yours, since being cage bird they always want to suck you into the cage too. just ignore and make those bastard get more jealousy since you're your own boss. cheers.

I'm consultant for internet advertisement company.

1. We tailor, and we create variety of advertisement content (Starting electronic stores, ending social networking advertisement)
2. Once orders completed, we sell it to the buyer.

Never spend any time professionally with anyone who uses the word "haters" with serious undertones.
 
Haters are going to hate! Today I went to a family party and I leased a BMW X4 and most of my family still don't understand what I do. Most of my earnings are from offline but I do make nice earnings from online. I have lawyers and financial executives in my family and it bothers them the most as I can see with their face expressions. I don't give a shit because it makes me work harder. I just tell them I flip websites and rank my clients websites. I always get asked "can see the website?" I say NO it's confidential and it gets even more awkward. Bottom line is work hard and smart, who cares what people think! I never went to college and maybe it bothers them knowing I will if not I'm already making more money than a family lawyer. Good luck! How people can relate?

I agree somewhat. My family tells me what are you going to do tomorrow sit on you computer all day and do nothing. Also, I get you should go back to your old career, you have a family and your business won't last. I don't know what to call those people. I think most people want to live the dream of having no boss.

If they cannot accept your choice of lifestyle, then I would nicely put it this way and continue to ignore the judgement.

I disowned most of my relatives like that years ago. All of them usually fell into one of two groups:
  • Misery loves company. They want you to fail just like they have so they can have someone to relate to.
  • They want you to succeed, but only in a way they can understand (i.e., go to school, get a degree, become a doctor or lawyer; because other careers don't exist). Making "Internet monies on smartphones and the bookface" is incomprehensible to them.
They thought I wouldn't stop talking to them, but they didn't consider the fact that I wasn't attached to any of them. They wanted to be unsupportive and spread lies about me to discourage me, so I tossed them aside like the garbage they are.

Yeah I agree! I avoid most family parties because I'm tired of people thinking because I didn't go to college I will never have a stable job to support my family. I'm proving them wrong every year. No matter what I say they think I'm weird. I refuse to show them my clients websites, my Adsence websites, my own products etc. Funny, when I leased my new car the dealer asked what I do and he said we probably have to use your wife's income because banks are tough on self employment. Showed him my income and he submitted it to the bank with no problem. Wtf do people think this isn't a real business. We probably make more than your average professional!
 
I used to do a lot of online sports betting and would often go days without leaving the house, peope couldn't understand how I was making money 7 days a week without having a 'job'.

Ignorance is bliss.
