College Student On A Journey

Hi everybody,

I am a long time lurker on this forum, and just recently started to take action. When school starts back I'll be a junior. I have until today May 20, 2017 until Aug 25th to find and start a process. To have something that I could make even $150 a month from while in school would be a huge help. I am dedicating my entire summer on making this work. 3 months may not be long enough to start seeing $150 but I want to have a $150 process in place, so that way when school start I already know what needs to be done, and can do it efficiently.

Currently I am doing a Amazon Affiliate website. I have a blog with informational post for my niche, while having native amazon ads sewn in the middle of a 1500 word article. I believe I have done enough research and its time to execute. For the month of May this is what I have done.

Domain Name: .99cents
Hosting: $8.40 this month $12 the following month
Install SSL: Free from Lets Encrypt
Cheap Articles: $2 for 10 articles
WordPress Theme: Free from BHW download section
Low competitive Keyword: $10 from a member on BHW
Free Lance writer on Upwork: $10 in escrow

I have connected with a member here who has given me great advice on how I should move forward. Creating more sites to expand the possibility of earning and also needing higher quality articles to to rank on my keywords. As I have read the process seems to be: Low competitive KW, Create niche blog, Create Quality articles, Rank for low competition KW, People find you, Click on Amazon Ads, $$$.

My next move is to find higher quality articles so I can start ranking for long tail keywords. I have come to the realization that because I am on a extremely tight budget, I should just write these articles myself.

So that's what I'll have to do. I will keep you guys updated on progress!

Are the articles spun or scraped from expired domains? More a money site they need to be good quality articles.

Did you scan the download yourself and inspect the code to make sure there's no backdoor Trojans or malware injects in there?

I think the articles are old and have been re purposed, when I check google for plagiarism nothing comes back. However these are not going to get me to rank for my keywords so I need better quality articles.

Usually if you post in the download section,they make you show the virus scan, no I haven't myself, but I trust BHW has a good system. Anybody that screws people over gets on the shitlist pretty quickly.

Hey OP while you are off to a great start, I'd like to give a suggestion of making posts on related niche forums and social media pages. The point of this is to drive some immediate traffic to your site to see if your content gets click-throughs to Amazon. There is a nice guide right here by a highly respect bhw member:

UPDATE: FML

Wow, where to start. I am starting to realize how hard this actually is. Haha. It's a little discouraging but I am not giving up. In order to make this really work I need a bigger budget, at least 3-$400. My engagements on social media are steady but they are not converting to page views. So my source of traffic would be coming from ranking organic articles but I'm too broke to afford them as everyone on Upwork wants $5 for 500 words which is reasonable, Im just broke.

Second Adventure: Recently a member here, offered to partner up with me to expand my portfolio you could call it. We are working on a niche shop, using organic and paid traffic to sell things using drop shipping. Basically the same model as my pet blog, except instead of affiliate links we are actually selling products. I feel like this will gain some traction because my partner has demonstrated he has the funds to make it work. We just need some quality articles written, paid traffic, and we should see a sale soon.

Tried & True: I've been making website for the longest, and I have a client I am closing this weekend. The pay is $450 which I will probably make $390 profit. (Minus the WP theme). I did some keyword searching for "web design in my city" and "seo in my city" for my college town, and MOZ is saying that there is 90% opportunity which makes sense becuse I go to college in a rural area. I'm thinking I should put some money into optimizing my design website and add content that targets those keywords. That way by the time I return to school in the August, my website should be ranking on the first page for the KW and I could make some money doing that.

The Real World: As an entrepreneur I value my time more than anything. I also hate working for someone. Currently I am working 15-20 hours at my job which after taxes my checks are about $200-$300. After bills paid I am usually left with nothing. All of these ventures are going to take more money, than my time. I can use the money to make up for the time I will no longer have, because in order to have the amount of money I need I'm going to have to start working at least 30-40 hours. I have the foundation, websites are up, I know where to find the people I need to hire. Everything is in place I just need the $$$ to pour the gas on the fire.

Things I want to buy:
upwork articles: Pet blog and Webdesign. $100 would get me 10 articles for each websites, that 10 targeted check words, which should be more than enough

Other stuff that will rank my sites on the 1st page of google: $200



Conclusion: I need money. Not time.
I won't start working more hours probably until 2 weeks from now, I'm 98% sure I'm closing the web design deal this weekend and need to have time to actually finish the site myself so I can bank as much as I can. Outsourcing would cost me $150. Which would buy me more time, but I NEED MONEY.

Update: Patience is Key

I am slowly building a portfolio of IM businesses. I have 1 DS store, 1 DS & Affiliate store, 1 Niche IG account 4k, 1 Niche Twitter Account 7k and 1 web design business.

Drop shipping Site:
None are making money but they are there. I think the problem I am running into is I am spreading myself too thin. I work on the DS store a little these few weeks, but today I ran into a problem with the app that automates the movement of info from AliExpress over to the wordpress blog using woo commerce. Its a common issue when I google it, but nobody has a solution, so I need to pivot. I might move over to Shopify and use Oberlo. Its kind of frustrating because I spent a solid week or two creating the sites.

DS and Affiliate:
This is the pet blog, it is basically just sitting. I haven't had the time to write content for it, so no organic traffic, even though I am getting a good amount of engagement from the twitter account, it doesn't look like the traffic is converting to the blog. The bounce rate on the site in literally at 100% which is god awful.

Fitness IG:
This account is a sub niche of fitness. It is also sitting, Ill probably post something on it today, but other than that its not doing much. The plan is to monetize once I hit 5-7k followers by doing shoutouts. The method to post pictures is tedious. Right now, I use FL to dm fitness models in my niche, ask to use pics, (this create a small bond, versus ripping there pics without asking), manually screenshot pics on my phone, send the dropbox, upload to bot that I use to boost likes and add the tags, and hashtags, then done. I could just use a bunch of generic fitness pics I have on my pc, but my niche is a subset of fitness and I need a specific type of fitness pic.

Web Design:
I use craigslist to browse for people needing social media help, or web design. In my last post I said I had a client that I was closing. We've been playing phone tag, I am off Thursday and will use that day to catch him and close the deal.

Biz partner:
Still working with the guy found through this forum. Constantly finding and evaluating ideas, and reminding me that this is not a race. I think we identified a way to make money using multiple websites. So we're going that route in a couple of weeks.

Conclusion:
I don't know what type of revenue stream I will have by the time school starts back. Its getting to the point where I don't like being on here, because everybody has a new method to make money and I'm likely to try them all out. Also trying to calm down my anxiety because I can easily start to feel like I'm not getting anywhere. (Biz partner assures me that I am.) I am going to stick with the drop shipping and affiliate stores. The IG will go on the back burner. I am working more hours because I started covering shifts, so in a few weeks I should have money to get things I mentioned in the previous Log.
