wordpress image optimization

I have 100s of AI images created automatically for my articles, the issue is, that images are between 3-4 MBS, so the average article size is 16 Mb. Do you have any idea how can I fix this? The pages are slow and also I am running out of space on my web hosting.. I have tried WP smush and Ewwwww...
