I am just wondering because if you can still rank with a free domain and hosting than why pay? Please leave your input, thank you.

Is it possible/likely to rank #1 with a .co.cc domain? Considering my keyword has literally no top results with more than a few instances of the keyword in the content but 170,000 competing pages when I search for "my keyword"? I've read elsewhere that the domain makes no difference, with...
