Zuckerbergs Ethics

Zuckerberg would be no where near what he is now without saverin. He came up with the funds and supported zuck's empty bank account for thefacebook project. On the other hand, zuck did not exactly steal the idea from the twins. He just put his own twist to an existing idea, in other words he thought out of the box which is something we do regularly to make things work.

Coming up with an idea does not make you the owner. The person who takes action and makes it something tangible is the real owner. Twins had a good idea but they didnt have enough resources to turn it into something alive. Zuck had the potential to code so that's where he came in. But he knew that the project wouldnt be successful as the way it is so he took the idea, put his own twist to it and did the entire coding by himself.

If zuck would have listened to saverin instead of sean, probably we wouldnt have the facebook giant today. Putting advertisement on there was totally a bad idea and would have ruined everything. So he listened to sean instead of saverin and thats the number one reason of being successful today. saverin sure had enough money to get things going but he lacked the vision of managing a business.

The only ethical point was where zuck and sean made saverin sign his death sentence. That was unethical in my point of view and zuck should have done the right thing by talking to saverin about whats going on. He owed this to saverin and that would be the right thing to do. Instead, he preferred keeping quiet and let someone else do the job by using saverin's trust. Saverin trusted zuck therefore didnt see it coming. He felt betrayed, backstabbed so it made him file a lawsuit against zuck and he had every right to do so. Without his start up money, there would be no facebook and things would have been different.

All in all, i think the justice has been served and everybody got what they wanted. You cant be in debt forever for whatever the favor is. There should be a limit to that and i think zuck paid what he owed.l and deserved to move on. I belive that he is one of the smartest people on the planet and facebook is just a start. One day, the entire internet will be integrated in facebook somehow.

Off topic, one of the smartest things g did was to buy utube. Without it, g wouldnt be where it is today. I am pretty much sure the inventors of utube are kicking their heads on the walls by selling it to g for a 1.5 billion dollar check, instead of holding on to it and turning it to a 30 billion dollar business like zuck did. I know that actually utube is making minus profit every year but still one of the biggest enterprises on the internet.

Lol, someone negative repped me with the comment "No" for my comment above where I was simply stating the facts and my opinion based on those facts. People need to learn to be more accepting of different viewpoints in my opinion. A lot of this has no concrete answer.

Fixed.

they just did a special on him on CNBC...go check it out...oh and btw...the dudes that made yt used to work for fb...they left to start their own "video site idea"....lol needless to say...they are not upset about the decision to leave fb or to sell to g00gle...they are caked up either way

What I find repugnant is that Zuckerberg screwed over his partner. That is unforgiveable. You all go on like Facebook will never end. It is just a phase as ALL things are. Ask the people who were in MySpace a few years back if they thought it would fade and you would have received a resounding "NO" !
It is the the very nature of people to be fickle and run to the next "fashion" as it comes out. Mr Zuckerberg has made his money from the latest fad and there will be many more like him. But hopefully they won't screw over their partners in such a way.

When is enough money....enough money? I don't know how much he is worth but when you hit a billion dollars does it matter ?
Money doesn't seem to count the more you get...it becomes a game. And winning the game is paramount. And that is when the "REAL" person emerges.

So Saverin got $2 billion dollars. Yes its a lot but the knives in his back must be very difficult to extract along with that exceptionally sour taste in his mouth. You would never get over it mentally.

And yes this threads been FUN-DA-MENTALLY fun chewing the cud which is what we old codgers do to stir you young buggers up !

Facebook is here.....and Facebook will go ! What I don't understand is why everyone is treating it like a god. Its a piece of software with a following....for now.

Not sure if others regard the existance
of Facebook as God like, I sure don't.

The journey of how the complexities
delivered the result also intrigues, inspires,
and facinates me. I agree that after a certain
point money is definitely not the motivating
factor, but rather the winning of the game.

Regarding the knives in Saverin's back,...
unforgivable? Hardly. IMO. Plenty of nubile
Asian chicks (Saverin likes the type) to massage
& extract those knives. :D Sour taste in his mouth..
Paaaleeeeeze, get some Listerine for that shit, hell
he could even use the extra strength Listerine
or even the new "whitening" variety. :borladuck

And I'm not just referring to the $ settlement
as the standard.

It has been my direct experience that people
who operate at that level of potential and
achievement, have much thicker skins than
many outsiders give them credit for. After
the emotional exhibitions are exhausted.
The battlefield becomes the courtroom.
After that, it's usually back to friendship, parties,
drinks, whatever.

The point is, bridges at this level are very RARELY
burned. Mostly for pragmatic reasons, where prior
emotionalism takes a back seat. :beerchug:

What some here I sense fail to notice (though
it's quite obvious) is that these young men were
Kids. Very talented in distinct ways, but in some
ways socially retarded from the viewpoint of a
mature experienced adult. :p

So naturally an entire radius of mistakes were
made, enough so that the finger of blame could
be pointed in ALL directions. Any pronounced
mental scarring or any idea of unforgivable conduct,
is a fragile notion IMO, only a part of lifes learning
process within the real world school of hard knocks.

A guy that swindled me out of millions in a business
deal once told me, "it's a dog eat dog world out there".

Now, despite the amount of times I'd heard that tired
cliche before, because he was my FRIEND, I let my
guard down within our process of doing business, and
it cost me BIG time, but within that suffering was a
huge lesson applicable to the "real world", which has
helped me to gain more than the loss.

One thing for sure, Eduardo Saverin will read every
single contract from A to Z before he signs it. :D

That one experience alone with FB will make him a
better business man for as long as he lives, and it
was a lesson learned EARLY in his life.

Net loss, a possible dent between his friendship with
Zberg. Net gain= multibillionaire before the age of 30,
and recognizing his duty as a responsible business man
of reading contracts before endorsement. :work:

Life is no fairy tale, and it's insufficient to rely on
just friendship when above average income
potential enters the equation. Doesn't take a degree in
Economics from Haaaaaaarvard to know this!

Cheers,
David

There's plenty of room at the top, the bottom is where it's crowded!

Having had the same experience myself but with a family member ( with exceptionally thick thick skin) I was scarred but learnt a very valuable lesson ( and yes I was told it's just business). And yes these family members keep a lawyer in a permanent state of employment.

I have watched over the years as that family member ( husband and wife) has since screwed over many ( and all of us in the millions). Each deal is so sincere to the new sucker. Of course I still mix with them , they are family but would I give them even 50c to do with business. Not a hope and I hold not one ounce of trust in them. They are cheats of the first order and it pains me as they are part of my family. I believe in karma and they are in for it big time....may seem niaive on my part but that is just me. Slow and sincere and may be just a little blackhat (but not much)....its all a game.

Or maybe the pot is calling the kettle black as I do download from here...but as I said maybe a little niaive as when I like what I have downloaded I go and buy it (if possible).
These days it all seems to be a con in IM. I find a few that are real and they are in my opinion....Kim Roach ( but changing a little to conform with the gurus...shame), Chadd Kimball, Dr Andy Williams, Michael Campbell...and a few others.
It seems when IM'ers are fresh at this game they have a eagerness to please and as they climb the guru ladder its slowly slides away.Is this the real person emerging?
My partner in life told me many times I expect too much from people in the game of ethics. It has always been my way to expect the best first and if, or at least until they prove themselves untrustworthy. For me emotionalism does not take a back seat as that is part of my makeup.....and that is the way I like it. I can sleep at night.

The younger on this forum take all this as a statement of jealousy towards those with the billions. That, I cannot get them to understand is not how it is when you get to a certain age. You get past the fussin' and fightin' to climb the ladder and settle into the old age of emotionalism.....the art of right and wrong..... and just bein' downright pesky!

I have had it and lost it and got it partly back again so now its all a game.
Not a billion but when I lost many, many millions at one stage that hurt ( bad investment decision) but strangely not as much as the 1 million my family member screwed me out of.

Horses for course ...we are all different......but in my retirement I sure am having lots of fun with you all on this forum. But I do despair at some of the replies in this thread regarding ethics especially from those just starting out.
This statement I do agree with : (Very talented in distinct ways, but in someways socially retarded from the viewpoint of a mature experienced adult.)

Get out there, do your thing and try to do it nicely but as responsibly as possible as it may just come back to bit you in the bum !
I am still waiting for those massive teeth to find my family members posteriors....LOL. Where is karma when you want it?

David, I don't doubt for one minute that you are infinitely more intelligent than I am as you are more able to articulate your strong opinions better than I can. Are you a lawyer?
You see with retirement comes brain retirement sometimes too!

We come from different stand points. I am not a cynic...just tired, having been around for a long time. I have the experience of watching life and times of my society and therefore can make a comparison of what I observe based purely on age. There are things that I did not like about society when I was younger but there was more order to living. And I actually liked that order. Doubt that many of the current generation could survive with the limitations of that order.
Would I have done what I do now back then...ooooh nooo. Have just learned to go with the flow now !

I think the very nature of the generation gap comes out when you take the comment expressed by another (nut job) as taking the high moral ground when he was probably just expressing vividly the way he felt . He was using "emotionalism" to express his view. Would he carry this out ....don't think so. He amended his comments after you so rightly pointed out his comment came across as racist with the use of a particular word. This showed he was rational and just tending to be vivid in his prose.

They say as you do something not in keeping with your conscience you will scar. But if you do it long enough the scar you hardly notice after a while.
And I was preached at long enough as a kid about " being guilty in the smaller things are just as bad as being guilty in the larger", so you are absolutely correct in the my being a hypocrite due to downloading . And my ethical hypocrisy and moral compass are definitely amiss and I would like to thank you for so eloquently pointing that out to me.

Now this where I do a bit of backstepping. If you do go into the Gucci store you will pick up and feel the item you like, you will open it get a good look at its leather, style, and color. If it is clothing or shoes you will try it on and make sure it fits or you will not buy it. Does the saying "try before you buy" come to mind? Do we pick up a book in book store and just take it straight to the clerk before thumbing through, reading the collar and maybe a bit into the paragraphs.
We all do it every day in our lives with everything we buy. Excuses...maybe...
And here you will say...no maybe about it !

And another point....I reiterated several times...it's a game. You will find mostly the serial downloader very rarely or never uses what he downloads. Does it make it any the less stealing...no not at all.....its the game.
And as I said before call me niaive but I do buy when I am going to use the item I have downloaded to have a look at.
After being caught by purchasing the high priced garbage of Arbitrage Conspiracy I decided NEVER again to just buy an IM item on someone else's say so. ( Did relent on that and joined Matt Haward on a gurus recomm. And got slightly burned again).
But do I download simply because of this....no...it's a bit of fun....stealing as you so rightly pointed out... ..... and at no time have I ever said I am logical.
No ...no logic to it at all. Nup...no root in logic in my actions.

And at no time have I brought up the words " wiser elders"...these are yours.
These words are also yours ...."custodians of ethics and morality". Don't believe I remember anyone bring those up either.....except you David.
I think you will find from the beginning of this thread that my main "high and mighty" opinion was not centered on money but on the actions of man against his best friend.

Think I will apply to Wiz to see if I can head up the "card carrying members of the wacky tobaccki BHW ethics and morals committee". Seems I qualify.

Well back to your "boobies" David and I will get on to the card carrying members.....

"We are Samurai... the Keyboard Cowboys... and all those other people who have no idea what's going on are the cattle... Moooo."

Keep in mind for every Zuckerberg there are a 1000 others who have died by their sword!

In any case don't hate but learn from his example.

Summary: Zucky is a sociopath which precludes any sense of ethics at a young age.

All this talk about his business ethics and capacity doesn't speak to how he carries himself personally in social circles.

He is now heavily advised on how to carry himself because he cannot form a sincere connection with other human beings. As he continues to be advised and learn how healthy people actually think and feel, he will learn to mimic those behaviours.

Thus the cold code and a virtual realm came naturally. It is no miracle that an Ice(Zucker)berg like facebook would form when put into an arctic freeze zone.

Proof? This is the direct quote from Zucky when asked about why in the early years of facebook users would submit their personal information to the site...

"I don't know why. 'They trust me'. Dumb fucks."

In Zuckys world, you are a 'Dumb Fuck' for using facebook. Glad I'm not one of them. :)

The plain and simple fact is that Zukerberg screwed his best and only friend over. The situation could have been handled much differently. What he should've done was offered to buy him out. At that point it probably would've been cheaper than what he paid him with the lawsuit.

I think I need to see this film, it sounds intriguing! I knew there were issues about the platform and copyright of ideas, but this looks fascinating.

In business, I personally think you should treat others as you would expect to be treated yourself - afterall, the ones you see on the way up, are there to watch you on the way down too!

Wonder how Mark sleeps...

I am surprised Zuckerberg is not more highly revered by all of you. Wake up people you can never get anywhere near where he got without investing in a more whitehat longterm business. His control and mindset is what I commend, if I was in his situation I would not have invested in a whitehat business that seemed to have already been successfully done. He may have "betrayed" his friend, but in the online business more than any other that is what it takes.

If the story from the movie is true how come the domain

thefacebook.com is created on..............: 2004-01-11

and

facebook.com is created on..............: 1997-03-28?

They don't say anything in the movie about that...

They bought the domain facebook.com in 2005 for $200k.

It's sorta a boring detail nobody wants to really go into with a movie for the masses... esp when there is so much drama that can be included instead.. ie. drugs, sex, crime, betrayal, and most importantly, how sociopath zucky couldn't figure out how to get the girl he wanted.

The movie also didn't talk about apache clustering or coding either... how lame is that!? :)

Hence why I never work on equity or do joint ventures... someone is always trying to screw the other.

Well methodic1....no jv's with you!

I just saw the Social Network, and I was unimpressed. It has to be one of the most over hyped movie of 2010.
