Well yes, I had a webhosting company a 7 years ago with 2 friends from university, and the one supposed to do the bookkeeping didn't have the time needed to do it. So in the end, we bought his shares out and he was out of the company. After a few years my remaining partner was slacking and I was putting 18h days into the company while he was playing with his girlfriend. Its ok to have a girlfriend just keep putting effort in your income
In the end I bought him out too, but because I didn't want to work 24h a day I flipped the company 3 years ago. Now its almost bankrupt under its new management.The year I flipped it we grossed 70k on hosting accounts, so not to bad.
If you 'believe' the movie (and I have no other source of seeing how mark is, though I am in a JV with someone who has met with him personally) you will see that the other fellow has also got his investment back (the cheque), before they got the angel investments. So he did not steal anything from the guy.

Maybe all od you should understand how subjective you are and how that limits you. Every single opinion about Zuckerberg or anybody and anything for that matter is subjective, hence in an absolute manner it can not be correct or incorrect, good or bad. Not to mention that unless you are Zuckerberg itself, you have no idea what happened exactly, why and who has more ethics and who has less. You see, ethics is a very subjective thing too. What I think is ethical you may think is unethical and the other way around.
In my perspective, which is obviously subjective, any discussion about another person's ethics is irrelevant and superficial. There are laws and even the laws are designed to have holes in them. By design, in the Universe, the strong/big dominates and consumes the the weak/small.
To me, a discussion about ethics is relevant only as long as it is a discussion that I am having with myself about my own ethics. "Am I OK with doing X?" The answer to that will shape my future and my personality. Other people's opinion about that question and my answer to it, will have no effect on me, my future or personality, or on them.

Even though their ethics did not change. We only see their actions from one point of view at the beginning of the movie and another near the end. It's only our perception that changes. Zuckerberg is unethical at the beginning for hacking...he is unethical at the end where he weasels Saverin out of the company. However, Saverin is the cautious type and is preventing the company for moving as fast as it can, which is why he had to be removed.
He began black hat with FaceMash, but built Thefacebook as a white hat site. When Saverin froze the account, there was no struggle between white hat and black hat matters. From the creation of Thefacebook, it went white hat. From then on it was a matter of business.
I don't even know what you're trying to argue here, I never labeled him in terms of ethics. I simply implied that he made good decisions as a business man, but not as a person. Again, you're just being an ass.
If you had money you'd probably know this is a wrong assumption...
If you had a expanding business, you'd know it is right to a certain extent.

Get into zuckerbergs mindset if you really want to make money.
If you believe the movie he also started out blackhat, scraping the facebook sites of the dorms and publishing this on a hot-or-not type of website (facemash). After this took of and he saw how much traffic it generated he started pondering about how to build something whitehat that would get as much traffic. he didn't want to create a clone like myspace or friendster so he 'stole' the unique idear of making it exclusive to harvard students and so he gave a 'twist to the social network method'
even when he hires new employees he has them hacking a python server to see how good they are.. hacking into any system are essentially blackhat skills. A whitehat might know about the techniques used and know how to secure himself against these attacks but that doesnt mean you know how to do them yourselve while drunk
so if you are on this forum to make money, get into his mindset. screw the public, steal ideas, be the biggest, trust no one..

This is my view on Blackhat also. I watch the Social Network and see a kid which everyone may have believed he would amount to nothing. What he did was not impossible and what we do is even more easily reached with some time and patience. While we may never become billionaires, to me millionaire status is just as cool. Personally I see making even more than my boss and driving a nicer car then him is just as rewarding
Simply great post Cnotey ....you have hit the nail on the head. As a civilization grows and then declines is the result of its actions. Our current civilization is damned as the ethics and morals decline as they are doing now.
As an older person I note the change in the last 50 years as being ginormous. Good or sound ethics and morals are the exception now rather than the norm.
Is it cool to have no ethics or morals but be rich. You may be able to live with yourself but others won't. They may seem to, but they will simply be with you for the "money" or "favors" you could empower them with. Lose your money and they won't be there for long. And then try and live with yourself.
Unfortunately it has been my experience that once a bastard operator always a bastard operator.
u r right Gemini, I had the same question what would I do in this situation when facebook was growing astronomically and we needed money majority of shares owned by a partner who was not emotionally invested. What Parker and others pulled off was bad and that is the problem with engineers they know coding but do not know laws of vesting and financially intelligent which led to this kind of unneccessary mess. Thanks for for your beautiful insight. I once asked a very successful billionaire, what one quality is very difficult to acquire and responsible for your success . He told me in one word : "INTEGRITY" if you lose respect in other's eyes you may gain it from other but losing respect from self you will leave a scar which can open up anytime.

This reminds me of a Chinese proverb that someone I respect once told me:

Lose your name - you lost everything.
Integrity is really what it is all about. It's something these scriptkiddies are going to find out the hard way... only as the proverb says.. by then they lost everything.
You have to stop and think for a minute. Suppose for a second something happens to facebook. Lets say a privacy scandal of some kind knocks it out and just completely devastated all 500 million of its members somehow and it leads to a MASSIVE legal action or the gov ordering it shutdown.
It's not impossible.
Whole thing falls apart like a giant house of cards.
Everyone bails as they now have to find new careers and recover from their now worthless porfolios of stock shares.. zucky is left holding the bag with his majority share of now only liability... now ask yourself.. just how many people do you think are really going to come rushing to help him? He's lost all his money, he has lost all his 'power'. He has nothing left but himself... and a gaping crater that once was facebook. Yup... he lost everything.

Wow.. I didn't notice that.. I knew that song but I didn't recognize it set to a choir. Yeah, they did a pretty amazing interpretation on it for the presentation of the movie trailer.

As for millionaires with ethics I've known a few and every one of them would screw you outa your last dollar if given half a chance. So saying most successful people have alot of ethics is just silly. You don't get ahead by playing nice you get ahead by doing things the general public won't.
