Hey fellas,

Anybody else using the Brave browser as default and still able to watch YT vids? Because my browser stopped doing it 30 minutes ago, and I can't figure out what's wrong...

Although, I suspect it's google again, these mofos always ruin things for everyone, so wouldn't be surprised if they did something to YT that prevent videos from playing for those who run adblocks, ghostery, cookie removal and stuff (which I do).

So anyway, if you're having the same security measures as I do but are still able to watch YT please let me know what I need to do (except for disabling adblockers, of course, this I will never do :D ) to resume the watching,as I've no idea about this...

Thanks!

I don't use Brave as my main browser, but something happened with Brave a few hours ago that made me wonder if it's a Brave issue thing going on here :D

This may seem completely unrelated, but I just finished a client's optimization project and was checking the site to ensure that everything was still in working order. I have one section of the website homepage that isn't loading properly, but I tried it with another browser and it works fine... Chrome and Safari

ok, so it's a Brave issue then, not a YT one. This is relaxing as I thought that google (thus, YT) really found a way to prevent us from watching ads vids...

Good thing I have Librewolf installed (and I also just added all of the extensions that I use with Brave, to Librewolf too 10 minutes ago), and now I can keep watching safely until Brave fixes its stuff :)

Thanks for the heads-up!

The only fix was turning off the shield and letting uBlock do its job.

I use Brave. I have the built-in blocker, AdGuard as a separate app, and Pi-hole on my network. YouTube works fine for me — both when logged in and in incognito mode. No changes at all.

It’s possible one of your custom blocklists got updated and started blocking something.

oh, that's a good point! But I still have no idea what to do, so I'll wait to fix itself :p

this didn't work, I tend to agree with RoyRoyan that it's one of the blocklists (whatever those are) that's causing the issue....

Oh well, I'll use Librewolf for now, and if / when I get desperate enough I'll look for solutions :D

Cheers, y'all!

I have youtube open in a brave tab as we speak. Working perfectly fine. I do have YT premium, may be that helps?
Perhaps try restarting the machine (I need to print a tee with that slogan lol) and see if that helps.

I'm not even logged into YT, I always watch YT logged out because I am shadowbanned and not allowed to comment on videos of big importance for me, so if they don't want me there I don't play by their rules either, which is why I have all sorts of ad ablockers and cookie removals and whatnot...

But all of these didn't stop me from watching YT until 1 hour ago (and I didn't see anything change, it just stopped loading vids out of the blue), so there must be something either with my IP + my Browser + YT (yes, a mix of all of these 3 things), or - like RoyRoyan said - it's probably an issue with one of the extensions that Brave uses, I don't know cause I'm not techie but my instinct tells me that RoyRoyan is right in this particular case.

No matter, I will use Librewolf for a few days and hope that this fixes itself. If not, I will come back here whining for a solution... or maybe I'll google my issue, or something....

Thanks for trying to help!

It's working fine on my end as well. Just opened an incognito tab, and no issues on my end. Is it because of your internet connection? :D
nope, the internet is fine! Absolutely everything about my internet and PC is fine, it's just this one particular thing that's the problem, so it must be a "me" thing, which is why I opened this thread (wanted to make sure it's my browser / YT only, and now I've got the confirmation).

Thanks y'all, I appreciate the help!

Try lowering the privacy settings in your browser. Also, clear your browser cache. Then test it on an ad-free video like this one:

I'm not clearing the cache because I have a lot of stuff that autocompletes and don't want to lose it. I'll just wait to fix itself, honestly...

And yes, I can watch these 2 videos here on BHW, but when I open them up on YT I always get this screen:

How do I lower the browser's settings?? I'm not sure what you mean by that...

I’ve always used Brave with uBlock Origin to watch YouTube ad-free, and nothing has changed, it’s still working perfectly.

I’m on Mac, running Brave Version 1.78.102 (Chromium 136.0.7103.113, arm64).

yeah, but I have more than uBlock Origin installed, I have 7 extensions running at the same time as you can see here:

Also, my Brave version (if this matters) is 1.79.126, as you can see here:

Try Ctrl + Shift + R in the browser. Try updating Brave if an update is available. Flush the DNS cache. Restart PC.
Have you installed a new extension today?

And you really do have a lot of blockers. They can definitely conflict with each other. Try disabling them one by one and refreshing the page to see if anything changes.

there are never too many blockers when it comes to protecting yourself against the mafia. You know that saying "when tyranny becomes law rebellion becomes duty". I'm doing my part...

Regarding the settings, your screenshot looks exactly like mine :D ... except for the "Trackers & ad blocking" settings that for you is set to "standard" while for me was set to "aggressive". Well, I just lowered it to "standard" but I still can't watch YT vids.

Also, the multitude of ad blockers can't be the issue as I've been running with this many of them active simultaneously for years (literally) and haven't run into this issue before... or at least I don't remember, that long ago must have been when (if) it's happened. Which is why I tend to believe that it's that blocklist thingy that you mentioned in your initial reply :) ... But we will see....

oooo, good idea.....

......

1 minute later.... well, I actually found the problem: it's the Disable HTML5 Autoplay (Reloaded) extension that causes the issue! I've restored everything as it was before except for this extension that I have disabled for now (will look for an alternative one if this doesn't get fixed in the next 24 hours)...

Thanks for the tips, mate! I didn't think about disabling each extension separately, so I appreciate the tip ;)

OK everyone, problem solved! I know what to do now / next...

@Gogol please feel free to close this thread, as the issue had been resolved! Thanks!
