As someone who has watched the entire youtube journey from nothing to worlds biggest website and the new TV it is sad to see what it has become now.

I think the algorithm is failing it. While optimizing for the watch time may seem a good idea the result is those 30 - 60 minutes videos with a catchy title however 90% of the video is a total waste of time.

I enjoy long format and I have enough patience to watch, but I am tired of those hooks every second youtuber is using just to kill some time.

They must fix it. Otherwise it is an opportunity for someone else.

I am positive they consider everything and if they are failing, they will certain to make adjustments. But it will not die soon.

Can you name one alternative where I could connect with old grandpa from the other side of the world restoring his 1974 camaro chevy, watch he doing step by step, listening of hours of explaining how engine part works, ask questions in comments, and get followup updates on them?

If someone wants to watch short videos, tiktok is good then. Plenty of amazing content creators there limited by short video time.
 
Nah. Not anytime soon. It has become too big.

Well I hardly think it will fail, you just said yourself it is the worlds biggest website, so they must be doing something right. How many of us spend FAR TOO MUCH time watching it each day... I know I do and I can't see that changing anytime soon.
 
Actually YouTube is the one doing the best it can to help its creators by listening and adding features. I saw that recently they added the feature to be able to upload your best 3 thumbnails and the algo will do A/B test and at the end use the one which performed better.
 
its actually too much, the ad breaks are not even timed well a lot of the time I watch

Plus he's smoking a nice cigar taking puffs here and there adding extra spiciness to the whole content.
 
The only way to really compete with Youtube is to become more open to different kinds of advertisers instead of taking a "not advertiser friendly" stance that Youtube does, even though its bs. However, Youtube could easily respond by changing their ad policies.
 
I really don’t think so. YouTube is always a nostalgia and usable for every ages to be honest
 
Is really complicated and they being saying that youtube will die soon and that is going down but people still consuming hours of content everyday, if you need a guide about how to do something is on youtube, there is always a video a bout something someone needs to do, what is unfortunate is that everything is saturated and the need for youtube to make more money with the ads.
 
I don't know a single person that does not use it daily from my 96 year old grandmother to toddler nieces and nephews. When you hear stories of 7 and 8 year olds making 30 million a year and users like Mr Beast breaking the billion dollar mark its hard to imagine it not gaining more traction in the years to come.

Like someone pointed out above, they control the search so good luck trying to compete and even if someone sees some growth they will either acquire them or destroy them... Fact!

I love you tube, it has essentially everything under the sun to watch. I’m a premium subscriber
 
YouTube might fail after ww3 when the internet is no longer working
