Due to the youtube update and views becoming increasingly risky I dont really want to pay for views. I was wondering if you actually need views to rank in google, can you rank in google just by using backlinks to your video?

I only care about ranking in google, not youtube.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

sadly social signals (not just views but comments and likes etc) do seem more important than before. HOWEVER this all depends on the competition. If you're going after low competition local keywords then you've still got a chance of ranking just with backlinks but for more competitive stuff it's a massive boost having the views.

Yes you can, we have a doctor who has videos who are ranking very well on Google for competitive terms which all have less than 300 views. That being said, there isn't many videos on YT about these topics so it might just be that there is a lack of videos to compete against.

Any tips then? I also struggle with ranking videos on google. Seems the more links i send, the worse ranking i got. My competition isnt strong (maybe 4-5 videos on same niche, without backlinks, social shares) and still I cant rank like i ranked before. Am not blasting links, just try to mix things and drip it. Still no luck at all. Any sugestions? tnx

I've ranked videos in Youtube (in face, I've seen more come back in my niche), and I've found it is easier to rank videos for keywords that already have a youtube video ranking.

I usually do not buy views or anything, and just build links and let the views build naturally.

I believe that your video title/description is going to be more important to it ranking than the number of backlinks. Treat each video description like a mini-article. Just write 400-600 words related to the topic and use good keyword search phrases in the video title/description and if you don't have many videos which compete with your video you should start ranking some videos. Keep in mind that some search phrases won't display videos regardless of their link portfolio's or competition. Sometimes google just doesn't consider a phrase relevant to video content. Make sure there are at least some videos showing up in the results for the keywords you are targeting.

Ok i will try to write more (i already got more than competitors, they usualy have link only and "keywords wall"), but should i reupload video or optimise the one already got?

After those updates it is hard to send any views for me, and I cant do seo either so i hope your tips will help, tnx!
