Youtube Starts Robbing Creators [NEW Policy]

So basically Youtube strikes again and this time in their new policy they are now stating that they reserve the right to monetize videos from every channel on Youtube. Even if your channel has been demonitized, youtube can still run ads on this channel and take 100% of the revenue earned if they want to.

So you are putting in all the work and Youtube has the right to demonetize your whole channel (or in other words, your whole work) and can still take all the money after that by running ads on your videos without you gaining any benefit by it. That is literally robbing people for their work to get a monetary gain out of it.

Video with some more information:

Whats your take on this?
Google is just the worst! No wonder they have been attacking the whole internet with "invalid traffic concerns", aiming to demonetize most creators so they keep the money to themselves. smh !

And do the facial recognition rules mean no one can use an image of pop stars and other personalities in a video. That will wipe out 75% of YT content if rigorously applied by YT.

So are "non-monetized" videos the same as monetized as far as the advertiser is concerned? The only difference being that the channel owner doesn't get a cut?

No, i think there is a fine line there. Some advertisers do not want to advertise on gun/drug related videos for example. I think what Youtube is rather targetting is something like demonetized channels that actually have videos that are advertiser friendly but (surprisingly) break Youtube's ToS (Compilations for example).

What about big channels whose owners are dead?

Yeah or what about people that actually do not want to advertise on their channel? There are plenty of big Youtubers out there that are choosing not to advertise (even if they could) and Youtube just reserves the right now, to actually put ads on these videos no matter if the channel creator likes it or not.

Yeah I knew a lot of youtube channels that have millions of sub and dont monetize their video, and after searching i found out that they do that for their fans since a lot of people if not all hate watching ads like every 2min..
But with YouTube options are limited. We don't have an option that can stand to YouTube.
what is the main obstacl to compete with youtube? i mean for real!! they play alone with 0 competition.

I thought Youtube announced this a while ago? That non-monetized channels were to opt out of having advertisements placed.
But the amount of channels that did so was so small, they just decided to have ads for everybody.

This also shows their desperation. Maybe I am wrong but it looks like YT business is not much fruitful to Big G anymore as it used to be.

There are two different issues here. One is YT tightening up their intellectual property rights compliance and enforcement.

The other is expanding their advertising inventory.

Something similar. A few other things you might have in store....

A number of years ago I used to sell a lot of books on Amazon KDP.

Then Amazon decided instead of paying per book they would pay per page read in the book.
TBH I did not care because they left a technical loophole I could exploit.

But then they started doing other things...

"We cannot verify your traffic" so we will not be paying you this month.

"We are going to cap the amount of pages we will pay you for"

Thin end of the wedge, time to leave and figure out your own monetization.

They are all going the same way, when you are a publicly traded company, got to grow them profits!

I think YT are going to put ads on videos that are not monetized by the uploader. With their consent or not. They justify it because they provide a free platform and want to capitalize on the advertising

They seriously need competition. Google's monopoly is giving problems for years.
Absolutely.

Recently started an email list and it is sobering seeing the % of emails that are gmail.

Monopolies and oligopolies need to be regulated and broken up to allow competition.

Well thats fucking ridiculous. They made it harder to join YPP so they can check the quality of a channel. They cant put ads on every non monetized channel because that would bring an adpocalypse so they would have to do a manual review to the channels. But if the channel is good enough to run ads why wouldn't they put it to YPP? So they can steal money. Nice!

They did this change months before .

At this it does not even seem to be worthwhile chasing the money that you are getting when you are in the Partner Program. After the adpocalypse that has happened in 2017 the earnings really became a joke, even for T1 Countries. I guess to take advantage of Youtube, the same they took advantage of us the last years and exploit it fully.

I wasn’t thinking about monetising YouTube back then- was it a massive crash of RPM at the time? Or did the rev share percentage change?

Sorry for my ignorance

Crash of CPM basically. The earnings plummeted for almost everyone. That was also the time when Youtubers started to develop their own merchandise as Youtube was not a lucrative money-maker anymore. Still isn't btw.

Thanks for this thread. That's why I have been getting so many Youtubes mail about changes in policy which I deleted without opening. But how can google make money off someone's work without paying them a cut? This seems highly unethical.
