I was ranking 3 for long tail kw term in YT. Then I added some more links direct to video and tiered. Now the video has gone from rankings?

Any thoughts?

Youtube is messed up at the moment. Really volatile. It has its own algo of course - but it's well known to be in a state of massive flux. Internally they want to present best results - but they are also getting huge external pressure from advertisers who only want their ads shown on "safe" videos. The upshot of this is the algo is changing almost daily, and it's not a good sort of change - it's responsive rather than pro-active. Google (Youtube) are jumping around chopping and changing then responding to pressure (from the political left most of the time) to nix somethings and up others.

I've got a couple of channels and trying to 2nd guess what the hell is going on since February has been next to impossible. You think you have an idea what YT are after, then it all changes.

There is the "Rule of 10 minutes and 4 seconds" - which is apparently the ideal video length.
They now look at engagement metrics big style. Number fo complete views, likes likes and those who then tick for notifications
These engagement metrics are for your ads not just your video. i.e does your video make THEM money - if not expect a slap

Trying to totally backward engineer Youtube this year has been a pain in the sack as I'm not sure from one month to the next that even Youtube know what they are doing. As I say they are responding to advertiser and left wing political pressure and hopping around altering things all over the place from day to day to keep the thought police from their door.

@Scritty Yes it seem volatile with its constant bouncing. But for the video to bounce completely out of the ranking for 3 days has me concerned.

Which leads me to believe that he video could be flagged but Ill wait and see after the links have been built.

my opinion the advertisers are waiting for Facebook own afflicate video program and ran from YouTube my opinion this has made it hard what YouTube going to do to encourage more advertisers Facebook has frighten YouTube in my opinion.

Facebook might even corner YouTube

I couldn't agree more. YouTube has never been as volatile as it has been this year.
The whole advert disaster as you mentioned is the driving factor in this. I would say though that the left wing fuckups are really making a mess of things up in YouTube with what you can and can't do. What does piss me off though is that a lot of the adverts I'm seeing on a daily basis have alcohol consumption in them, as well as violence and swearing, yet if I upload a video with the same material it gets demonetised. I can understand that YT doesn't want to turn away ad revenue, but it's pretty one sided. I'm surprised that they haven't had an advert shake up. What I mean by this is that they have specific advertisers that don't mind that they are getting air time on more violent videos (like games etc).

I did all of this and my video ranked at #3 in 3 days. Then after some more added links the rankings started bouncing all over the place.

I guess ill wait for the links to index and see what happens

Wow! Thank you for this list, guys!
By saying "the links to index" do you mean crosslinking?
Btw, did you publish your video on the social networks? Did it improve ranking?

YouTube now gives a lot of relevance to the user's behavior. It's hard to trick the system with videos that generate a bad user experience.
