What are the actual rules to get monetized on youtube? it always feels like gambling, spending a lot of time and effort doing a channel and just waiting to get it approved. Idk how people gamble like this, when for example, their channels don't get monetized afterwards.

So speaking about that, how to monetize shorts? I mean, can you for instance, make shorts that all use the same image as background, text and a voiceover? is that enough? do you have to make everything different in every short?

They have clear cut criteria. They have a dashboard that helps you track progress in real time. Very transparent platform, nowhere near to gamblibng.

All success is built on hard work, skill, and patience. Making money online takes time and perseverance, without those qualities, it’s very difficult to succeed.

For Shorts specifically: the same image + static background + voiceover template used to slip through but YouTube tightened their "reused content" detection around late 2024. Channels running that exact template get flagged as mass-produced and often fail manual review even when they hit the 1k subs + 10M views threshold.

What still works is variation that's cheap to produce - different background colors, slightly different text placement, swap out the thumbnail image per video. The algo is looking for bit-for-bit identical frames and audio patterns. Even minor differences help a lot.

For the approval process in general: the 1000 subs + 4000 watch hours (or 10M Shorts views) is just the application threshold. After that it goes to manual review which can take 1-2 months. Channels with flagged content, sudden subscriber spikes, or anything that looks purchased tend to get denied or sit in review forever. Organic-looking growth + genuine engagement comments make a real difference on the review outcome.

Monetization on YouTube usually works best when you focus on creating content that is original, valuable, and consistent over time rather than trying to game the system. Just treat channel growth as a long-term project and aim to make each video feel meaningful to viewers.
