YouTube might terminate your access if not profitable for Google

YouTube’s new terms of service has some users and content creators very worried that the company could delete their account.

In the section titled “Account Suspension & Termination” with the subheader “Terminations by YouTube for Service Changes,” the site’s new terms, which are set to take effect on Dec. 10, adds the following:

“YouTube may terminate your access, or your Google account’s access to all or part of the Service if YouTube believes, in its sole discretion, that provision of the Service to you is no longer commercially viable.”

What's your ideas on this?

That is the pay off for platforms like YouTube, you have access to a world wide audience easily, however you never truly 100% own the content that you publish, and you are always under the control of the platform.

This is however probably one of those clauses that they insert in there ToS in case they need it, I doubt they will actively remove users from there platform for simply not being 'commercially viable'.
 
I assume deleted, they probably don’t want to store terabytes worth of data that doesn’t make them a dime.

Goodbye the family videos that are not funny or otherwise of no use to anyone outside the people in it.

if thats youtubes plan then there steering away from what youtube has always been about... thats a bad decision on their end.
 
YouTube tried to push YT Red really hard, but its not gaining traction..at least AFAIK.. they also tried with Google Plus.. which was even worse fiasco..

I guess they are looking for some other ways to make money, and want to become kinda like Netflix.. where you either upload only funny/music videos, or not at all.

lol wtf that sounds absolutely retarded what about the other 95% content creators who dont upload funny/music videos lol
 
This is a fail-safe for when a content creator comes under fire for doing something which YouTube doesn't agree with. Many YouTube creators have been bringing YouTube to court over the past year and since YouTube never had anything in their terms of service like this, they were unable to remove the channels completely.

In other words, it's a thing YouTube can call upon in their terms of service to ban channels which hold opinions differing to advertisers and YouTube/Google/Silicon Valley.

agreed i dont think we really have to worry too much this was just added as a legal jargon
 
So does this mean that non-monetized channels could be deleted?
 
Imo it's added as a safety measure.

Hopefully, there is no reason to be alarmed by this.

greedy bastards! what do you expect from money hungry corporation like that, they are slowly setting the stage for their own downfall, and i cant wait to see them crash and burn!

They recently bought fitbit they invested so much they need more money now loool spend 2.1 Billion in a whatch company that is insane

That's the best scenario for normal users like us. I have thousands of channels without videos and low interaction. If they delete them, I will lose everything...

Well YouTube clarified their position on their new TOS. "To clarify the commercially viable section is not about terminating an account because it's not making money not in the YouTube Partner Program it's about discontinuing certain features or parts of the service because they are outdated or have low usage this does not impact creators or viewers in new ways."

So moral of the story.. they can remove anything without any legal issue.

Some ppl says its a end of their youtube career and other says at least it's not the Domesday kind of message that it seems before.
