YouTube Content ID distributors?

I run an educational channel with about 170,000 subscribers. I upload rare interviews and documentaries. YouTube won't let me monetize it for "reused content", so I added an end-card with music I wrote. I used TuneCore to add it to YouTube ContentID and monetize the music, but Tunecore took it down because they said it was breaking their rules: "created solely for use in YouTube videos to exploit Content ID (e.g. music used for endcards)". I was making about $2500 per month, but I stopped uploading videos because I couldn't monetize them.

Does anyone know of any distributors that will let me monetize my music? Any other advice?

I was in the same spot as you and I'm surprised that YouTube won't let you monetize your content, you should reapplying. I got a copyright channel going and I got accepted so it's worth it to try again.

As far as distributors go I'm still trying to figure that out but haven't gotten a clear answer yet. I was in your position back in January with TuneCore who are some assholes. I definitely don't recommend anybody partner their music with them. TuneCore cut me off for the same reason, they are some huge assholes. The only good thing was that TuneCore paid me every red cent they owed me after they cut me off like they paid me the month after before I completed my time with them. My songs are off their contract in another week so I can't wait to get my songs away from them.

Try using DistroKid as I haven't had any problems just yet with them but you never know in the future. I'm still trying to find a network that pays like AdSense.

How many views did you have to get $2,500k per month through Content ID?

You would've made way more than that through AdSense.
 
Have you tried adrev?

I am using them for 2-3 years now, they pay quarterly tho…

can also advice Distrokid for sure

I used Audiam and TuneCore. Audiam recently sent an email taking down my music too. They said YouTube reached out to them and they had no choice but to comply. But DistroKid uses Audiam for its YouTube monetization, so I don't think I'd be able to use them.

That policy is kind of BS tho, I mean as a content owner we have no way of knowing where our contents would be distributed illegally, if YouTube is the place for people to reupload and redistribute our contents then how are we to be punished.

How is this a Content ID exploit I am not sure

Exactly, what if another content creator is using the copy claim music on our music? They have no way to know so YouTube is really stupid for punishing people for using this method.

This is why for the most part, I'm going back to AdSense and figuring out different methods to monetize. Content ID is not paying enough to deal with that stress.

How good does AdRev pay? Do they pay just as good as AdSense?

The distributors take a cut. It's usually around 10-5%. But that's not the issue for me. I have a channel with probably more than 1000 videos and 200,000 subscribers. I couldn't monetize any of the videos unless they had the music, so I had to either reupload the same video or upload new videos and only make money on the new videos. So that's the big pain of it. It's not like I can just monetize the whole channel again.

Yeah, that's the pain of it is having to take the videos down and put them back up. Like I got several videos that TuneCore demonetized earlier this year that are just sitting there not making money because I gotta wait for those tracks contracts to expire so I can see where to send them to next so those videos can get back to making money again.

Right now, I'm definitely not trying to trap myself again into a situation where I'm scaling that much only to lose the ability to make money off those videos long-term. I'm working on ending all of that so I can make money in the long run. Copyright and reused content is easier for me but I'm gonna start trying to establish some original content so I can just use AdSense.

You're totally right. I'm working on 'legit' channels right now too. What's stressful is that it's still a risk, because it seems like any channel randomly gets demonitzed or totally shutdown nowadays. Good luck! Hopefully we both can catch a break and get back to earning good money.

Yep, you're right as I'm not 100% safe with even original content as I still hear channels randomly getting demonetized from time to time which makes me think if you're not a super large channel then your channel is always at risk of getting demonetized so it might be best to have multiple channels and if you're making a living off of YouTube money definitely put that into other things online to make you more money so that not all of your eggs are in one basket.

I hope we can catch a break too as I'm rooting for you and others who haven't given up on YouTube. At the end of the day, YT money has still worked the best for me out of all online methods and I made the big mistake after YT changed its rules of going completely away from it. I'm glad I'm going back into it now.

DistroKid uses Audiam for their YouTube Content ID. So if you use DistroKid, both of them are taking a cut and you're losing out more. Plus, Audiam just recently sent me an email shutting down my account. They said YouTube contacted them and they had no choice. Lots of other people here and elsewhere report DistroKid has issues. I wouldn't trust them. Just search "DistroKid" in this forum.

As I have huge database of song (I own them) what do you recommend for me?

I don't know, but if you have a huge database of songs, that might get you past YouTube. I only had two songs and when I tried adding more, that's when YouTube messaged Audiam. My mistake was not diversifying in the first place and not having a lot of music. If I had a huge catalog of songs, maybe I wouldn't have been caught.

I've searched everywhere for an answer. It seems like if YouTube catches you, they will send a message to the distributor and the distributor has no choice but to take you down. Audiam was really good to me while it lasted. Plus, Audiam has an option where you can add one YouTube channel and receive 100% revenue from it, so Audiam doesn't take any cut from that channel.

Maybe the only option is to essentially set up your own record label and deal with YouTube directly? I don't know. I wish I had an answer, because it really sucks losing out on that money.

I'm wondering if that's how TuneCore shut me off I kept using the same few songs. I had about 6-7 songs I was attached to copyright videos that were getting high amounts of viewership.

I'm still with DistroKid so I feel like I will get caught up any minute now.

That's exactly where my hang-up is right now is trying to figure out the best option and how setup my own record label.

There are several websites that offer the option to do it, but it's relatively costly. You have to pay them between $200-$500 per month, but then you deal with YouTube directly and can submit anything you want and keep all of the money you get from YouTube. So it's the closest to AdSense as you can get.

But it's not easy to be accepted by these websites. You have to appear to be a real record label. I was thinking I could buy a domain, set up a fake record label website, set up a bunch of fake bands, set up Bandcamps for them, pay to release all of the music through like TuneCore to the stores but not on YouTube so the music appears legitimate, and then get accepted through these websites as a record label. But it's still a gamble and there's a lot of upfront cost and time required to set it all up. You could also try to do this whole process and apply to YouTube directly as a record label.

It seems that there are several distributors in India that monetize a lot of copyrighted YT videos, but many of the reviews say that they'll take your music and money and never pay you. I used TrustPilot to search for ratings of distributors where you can read a lot of reviews.

Yeah, it seems like you would have to look legitimate before you can probably get through and monetize directly through YouTube that way. Maybe, I'll try that in the future when I have more money to spend to make it look legitimate and being able to pay that monthly cost. That looks like the best way to do CID as of right now.

When you said the word India, I already knew it was probably a scam. LOL! Those people probably would've been better off just using AdSense for those compilation videos even if they keep getting demonetized. That's just a waste of time and energy to be getting scammed like that as people gotta be smarter out here and not be so desperate. Just use AdSense and figure out how to get around it, that's what I'm doing from here on out.
