Hi There,

I have a friend who is currently growing their youtube channel and they are considering changing their channel category and asked the following questions I was hoping someone here could help me with:

a) Does the content created within a channel category need to match to obtain optimal organic reach? (i.e. if Educational content is created within a channel tagged as Entertainment, does this negatively effect organic reach or monetisation?)

b) If my friend wanted to change their channel from Entertainment to Educational, would this also effect the organic reach or monetisation?)

Many thanks in advance!

From my experience, I'd say no, it doesn't affect that much. I think it is another little ranking factor for reach, but not massive. I personally think your friend won't have a problem, but obviously it's just my experience. The only way I'd see it as a problem is if he was strongly ranking for entertainment keyword, then maybe going to educational may change something, but we're talking about a tiny margin :)

Thank you very much for your reply! Sincerely appreciated, I will share this with my friend.

Cheers!
