I downsized to VPS because I really like that it's fully managed and it's only about $50 a month for the same specs as some servers have. For shared hosting you can go with pretty much anyone. What I do a lot if I know I'm doing something kind of shady I go to EBay get $1 hosting and ride it until it dies. Just make sure you keep backups when you use the EBay hosts and pray the hosting will last a few months.
