I’ve been selling hosting and server-related services here for several years, so I understand both sides of this discussion. Old sales threads with outdated contact info can definitely cause confusion or lead buyers to impersonators. At the same time, those threads often contain years of client feedback and discussion that show a seller’s credibility and track record.

Rather than removing or replacing them entirely, it would make more sense to keep archived threads visible but automatically strip or redact all contact details—websites, Telegram, emails, etc.—and display a clear banner noting that the thread is archived. The banner could link directly to the active Marketplace section so buyers can find verified sellers offering similar services.

That would preserve transparency, keep the SEO value and community history intact, and still protect users from outdated or unsafe contact details. It’s a balanced solution that maintains fairness for both active sellers and buyers.

I’m going with Option 1.

Reason: Old sales threads help show a seller’s past activity and trust. Buyers often look at older threads to see how long someone’s been around or how people reviewed their work before. Removing them completely would erase that record and make it harder to check who’s genuine.

Replacing just the first post keeps the marketplace safe and updated while still keeping that history visible.

Option 1 seems more logical — it retains important information for buyers while removing outdated contacts to prevent any confusion.

Preferred Option 1 with a few Alternatives:
  • Selective Content Replacement: Don't swap the entire content, replace only the contact details with a generic message & add a link to the destination forum where the sales thread is located, so that viewers can find similar active services. This will keep reviews and discussions visible.
  • Implement an "Expired" or "Archived" Tag: Clearly mark old threads as archived, with a link to current listings, and hide contact details unless directly requested from support.
  • Archiving with Notification: Notify sellers before their threads are archived, giving them a chance to update or close their listings.
  • Dedicated ‘Old Listings’ Section (If it doesn't affect SEO index): Create a separate section for outdated or archived sales, maintaining transparency while avoiding confusion in active areas.
  • Enhanced Search Filters: Improve search and filtering options to prioritize active listings, reducing reliance on thread visibility.

I think option 1 is a good and balanced choice.

It keeps useful history and reviews for transparency while avoiding confusion with inactive sellers. Clearly marking old threads as “Archived, Not Reflective of Current Service” will help buyers understand that the seller may have updated or improved their work/service, keeping the marketplace fair and informative for everyone.

Option 1 seems the most appropriate way forward :)

I support Option 1.
Replacing the old opening post while keeping the discussion and reviews makes sense. It keeps the history intact and avoids confusion with outdated contact info. This approach balances transparency, fairness, and marketplace integrity.

A variety of opinions, which is great to see. Just to address a few posts:

Option 1, small suggestion: archive thread should not appear in search results. I don't know if the option 1 will automatically take care of that.
Currently, not an option. However, I think I have an idea around this that might work (although I'll have to do a bit of testing to know for sure, it's a lot more complicated than how I've put it here, but it's worth looking at it). I know what you mean though, it's an excellent point.

Against the popular vote, but I go for Option 2 - if you're not paying for a sales thread you shouldn't be able to get business from it.
Correct :) That is especially true for banned members or non-Jr VIP members. However, there's also the other side of the coin - you're an active Jr VIP / MS, you have your other sales threads, you let this one expire because you thought you no longer wanted to sell this product, but changed your mind in 8 months. Now, you cannot reopen it, but you can submit a new one. If we go with option 2, this means:

  • You can't link to it (for history, that's allowed for closed sales threads and not considered cross-selling)
  • You can't include reviews (because the whole sales thread is gone)
  • Your prospects can't read your previous sales thread - either reviews, history, or your provided customer service.

Both options have pros and cons :) Thanks for your opinion

  • Selective Content Replacement: Don't swap the entire content, replace only the contact details with a generic message & add a link to the destination forum where the sales thread is located, so that viewers can find similar active services. This will keep reviews and discussions visible.

Ah, that's not as easy as you think :) roughly 80-85% of the sales copies embed the contact details within the sales graphic. Not as easy as deleting a line of text.

  • Archiving with Notification: Notify sellers before their threads are archived, giving them a chance to update or close their listings.
Oh, that would be very well know. It will be in the rules and it will state that if you don't reopen your sales thread within XX days, it will be archived. That and there's of course multiple DM reminders that a sales thread expired :)

Adding prefixes as : Closed or Locked for Old threads will prevent users to click into the thread.
This, I would to this, other examples will be:
Service Discontinued
Service Out of Stock
Service Closed and OP Banned - Shitlist Unresolved
....

Option 1: Replacing the old opening post’s content is a good option, but it only helps remove contact information and other sensitive details from the original post. Many users, however, share such information in other posts within the thread, not just in the opening post.

Option 3: Hybrid Method — Preserve Value, Refresh Content

Description:

Instead of fully deleting or keeping old sales threads unchanged, this option combines the advantages of both previous methods (Option 1 & Option 2).

The goal is to keep the thread’s SEO and history intact while also ensuring that users see only relevant, up-to-date information.

How It Works:
Hide old content rather than deleting it permanently.

The original sales post and replies remain in the database (not indexed), preserving SEO value and historical data.

Replace the visible opening post with a notice such as:
This service is now archived. Please visit our [Active Services Section] to find similar and currently available offers. (Previous content has been hidden for reference.)

Optionally collapse or hide old replies
to keep the thread visually clean while still maintaining a full record internally.

Benefits:
  • Preserves SEO value — old indexed links still contribute ranking authority.
  • Avoids confusion — users instantly see that the service is no longer active.
  • Supports active sellers — visitors are directed to live offers.
  • Maintains transparency — history isn’t lost or deleted.
  • Keeps the forum clean and professional.
In Summary:
Option 3 is a balanced approach that keeps the benefits of both Option 1 and Option 2 — maintaining SEO and transparency while improving user experience and promoting active services.

We can combine both options:
  1. Closed Threads:
Threads that have been closed for at least 1 year can be completely deleted from BHW, as long as the sellers do not wish to renew them. This is usually the case when the closure is initiated by the seller.
  2. Thread Renewal / Update Option:
Sellers who prefer to keep their threads active can update or edit them with new details, CTAs, etc., by paying a $30 editing fee.
This approach gives the final choice to the sellers whether they want their old thread removed or updated.

Option #1 makes more sense to me as well, otherwise buyers won't be able to identify sellers that have been here for a longer time ( More trustworthy)

I'm not in favour of deleting ANY of the existing information, including URLs etc. It all adds historical data, and I would much rather trust a seller who has previously been a successful seller with good reviews.

Besides, some of the services offered here are truly unique and often a great introduction to BHW, so I wouldn't ignore the search traffic.

Here is my suggestion:

1.
Use a new "Time since active" prefix on all sales threads (active and outdated).

This could quickly show buyers when a seller hasn't replied or been active on the thread for a longer period of time. Sometimes you're only interested in sellers who are really active and responsive. After a specific period that prefix would move to "Outdated", "Not available", "Deleted" or something like that, and everyone would know it's a dead thread/offer from the search results, without having to click.

2. In addition, slap a massive Red cross over the opening post (and perhaps also as a last comment) saying that the thread is closed, perhaps with a link back to the thread for all such services.
