If you've got any web design / coding skills, Sage9 is awesome.
It brings some of the better things about modern web development into Wordpress - Blade PHP framework, webpack, SCSS, can choose CSS framework (Boostrap 4, Foundation, etc)...
That said - when you spin up a site on a fresh install of Sage9, it's just a blank unstyled page. You'd need to know a little about coding to make it look like anything.
For me, this is great - starting with a prebuilt theme actually takes longer, since I have to fight the theme to make anything look the way I want it to. YMMV.
