Your Experience with Publishing an Ebook

It's not the easy gravy train some would have you believe.

You need to promote your book - especially in the beginning but it can be worth it.

In my early days of online marketing I made money selling kindle books and later pod books.

Not in the scammy way that the "gurus" mentioned at the time.

I created a complete series of study aid books for school age children. The books were designed to help people pass their exams.

These books were essentially evergreen and with internal cross selling we got multiple sales from individuals (one of the big secrets I knew is that it was parents and not kids who were buying the books).

Other than a little bit of time these books cost me nothing to create.

I also have a book which is essentially for authority and to give to clients but that one doesn't sell at all.

I am about to experimenting with selling quiz books.

I've had little success on selling PLR e-books coupled with targeted traffic. Certainly won't vouch for Amazon as it's vast for a beginner.

Sources like Influencer traffic works well to take off sales as soon as you're done with rest of the work. Pitch influencers in your niche with a commission per sale model.

I wouldn't say it's a waste of time; however, Amazon makes it difficult for publishers who are only in it to make money.

If you want to see any return, you have to put in a ton of work promoting your book(s).

If you are established in a niche with a decent-sized audience and you do the work yourself, there is money to be made.

Other than that, it's a great way to promote other things, build authority, help others, and become a published author.

I make a bit of money assisting others in publishing. I do editing, formatting, and in some cases publish for them.

Has anybody used their experience to write and publish an ebook on a platform like amazon?

What was your experience, is it just a waste of time?

Everybody else has given you a fair answer. My one piece of advice is to write a series of books. Make th irst book in the series perma-free. Get an autoresponder set up with GetResponse or MailChimp. Write a free book that you will offer to people who read your books on Amazon Kindle. Use that free to get them to sign up. When you publish new books in the series, then you can tell your subscribers that you have a new book published.

I made quite a nice amount of money selling pubic domain and my own e-books on Amazon and Barnes and Noble when the market just began to boom in 2011. For 5 years I cleaned up making more than 6 figures. However, then the bottom fell out, as it does in all gold mines. Why? Literally, millions of other prospectors flooded the market with good but mostly bad, spam e-books. This forced the big players to tighten their requirements, ban most public domain material and really go over all e-books summitted with a fine-tooth comb.

Plus, big publishers decided to stop boycotting e-book publishing and opened their catalogs to Amazon and Barnes and Noble. This killed the market for me and many others. However, it was great while it lasted.

* The motto of this story: get in on the ground floor of a new trend and you can make some big money.

Today, the e-book market is a waste of time for me.

For example, I spent 4 months writing a very good non-fiction e-book that is rated with 5 stars, only to barely make $220 in royalties in the last 8 months. Not a good investment for my hard work. I did this to test the waters after walking away from the industry a few years ago. There is little market for unknown writers, no matter how good -- in my opinion. I stopped writing and instead I spend my time looking for new trends. Good luck!

Just like the one above, it is important to jump in on something before it becomes a trend. Now the returns are not there when everyone is competing. Better off to find the next big thing!

Did you ever do any marketing? Seems like you gave up way too easy...
