Your Complete Guide to SEO in 2012 - Part 1

i think that your keyword density is a little too low. how is that working out? i have done various tests and still a density of 2-3% with loads of LSI and atleast a 500 keyword article seems to work well.

Makes perfect sense to keep it real and simple but what about social signals? I am seeing a lot of good results from people using twitter, fb, and pinterest without any other backlinking. Are these people just trying to sell gigs or is there something there? Is google looking for interactivity just as much as seo?

Thanks given!

I think that nowadays you can't give exact advise on KW density etc. Everything is combined together. If you have only 1 anchor text, your KW density should be close to zero, and on the other hand if you have very diverse anchors and good BL profile, you can go quite high with your density. It's not like they just look one thing at time, they check multiple factors to decide if your site is spammy or not.

edit. Good post! :)

Does this apply to new sites or old sites that have been penalized? What wordpress theme do you use?

The guide is all old/new sites even if they're penalized... I've covered the very basic things that apply to 99% of the sites out there.

I presume part 2 is gonna be a new thread? Looking forward to it. Really comprehensive post. Will help a lot of people I think.

Yep, it will be a new thread. I'll update this thread once part 2 is live... will be next week or so.

Make sure you write the meta descriptions for visitors and not Google.
Good meta descriptions are crusial to attract visitors from the SERP and more visitors means more people visiting your site and some natural linkbuilding.

Spot on... that is exactly what I said in my post.

i think that your keyword density is a little too low. how is that working out? i have done various tests and still a density of 2-3% with loads of LSI and atleast a 500 keyword article seems to work well.

It works out great for me and many others.
The thing with keyword density is, you can't have a high density if your keyword is a long tail... e.g. having a 3% or even 5% density for "making money" or "internet" or "weight" would not be a problem and your article would sound just fine.
But if your keyword is a longer one like "how to make money with facebook PPC" or "what can i do to get rid of acne in one week", your typical 500 article will not sound that good if that whole sentence appears 15 times in it... hence the use of LSI keywords :)

only thing I disagree with is keyword density. As long as you have quality content and good backlinks, you can still have a 2-5% density and be fine.

haven't built those a single backlink and they each have a density average of 4%.

Fully in agreement. Keyword density is a myth. So long as your content reads naturally (and sometimes that may involve heavy keyword usage, depending on context), you'll be fine. You should never optimise/write for your site around keyword density. Just make it a fucking good read.

Other than that OP, great introductory guide.

Im new to blogging and seo but after some seo stuff i managed to get page rank 3 to

Thanks for the comments folks.

I've been pretty busy for the past two days that is why I couldn't answer all the questions. Guess what, I've got a nice weekend ahead and plenty of time.
So I'm going to answer all your questions in this thread... ask away if you have something in mind.

I may very well post the 2nd part on Sunday if I get the time to write it... it'll be a long read, I promise ;)

Thanks for the detailed guide. a lot of useful information.
