Lack of Time and Resources are the main reason for fail. If you invest in a new project and in meanwhile your existing project get expanded/need your extra attention/employee moving out happens then you will automatically set aside the new project and keep concentrate on the existing one.

It's not an online business, but I opened a restaurant in 2016. It was by the seaside in the UK, in theory it seemed to be a great idea that couldn't possible fail. It was a very expensive fail.

Lost ~$200K in a failed startup. Could not grow at an adequate pace. I learned the hard way, that if one cannot scale at the same pace as the earnings is not worth scaling.
Although most startup investors don't think the same way trying to sell a can of rotten fish at the price of a premium anchovy can to any bigger company willing to invest
