Working behind a computer for hours on end isn't easy (regardless of what some may think).
Having to be creative, writing for hours constantly, it will take its toll.

Inevitably, you will burn out at some point. It happens, it is life, and it is OK.

I have had a few instances in my lifetime. I often wake at 6 am and I am on the go until 11 pm. I can usually manage this throughout the week. By Saturday though, I need a couple of hours to myself.

I don't usually get it, but I switch off for a little bit. It helps.
There are a few things I do now, which help me keep going without having burnouts. Things that help me stay more creative, less clustered and able to keep working and keep organized.

  • Keep your workplace tidy
Keeping your workplace tidy may sound simple, but many of us don't. I work from home and my office room can get stuffy, and cluttered with bills and paperwork.

When I find I am working a little less productively, I clean my desk area, open the window and hoover my room. This helps declutter not only my working area but also my mind.

Another place I like to keep tidy is my desktop. Regularly reading new things and downloading new files I often save them to my home screen. It can start to look like a magazine cover.

At the end of the week, I go through it and delete what I don't need. The rest will go into organized folders. Decluttering your home screen will help you focus, and you will not get distracted from the porn you downloaded.

Once a week me and my wife will go through the house and we will have a total clear up. I will hoover the entire house and it feels really therapeutic. You will feel like a new person.

If you work in an office then keeping your desk area tidy shows great initiative, making sure your desk is clear of paperwork by the of the day is an excellent sign to your boss that you are not only organized but productive also.

This will stop your mind becoming bogged down from the energy around you.

  • Try to eat a bit better
This is a hard one. I will admit I struggle. Thank god though, my will power is quite strong when I want it to be. Eating and drinking crap will dampen your creativity and will fuck with your energy levels.

Eating cleaner and healthier foods plus drinking plenty of water will keep your energy levels stable throughout the day. Will allow you to work longer without your energy levels dipping up and down and will also help you to feel better.

This will help you stay creative and have more energy to battle fatigue.

  • Move every hour
This is a big one. My chiropractor helped me with this one. Sitting for long periods ruins your posture, and I have found it doesn't do your stomach much benefit either.

Every hour get up and move. Have a walk around the office or grab some water. If you want to improve on this further, then before you start work every morning go for a brisk walk. This is one of my favorite things to do and my preferred route is three miles.

This will stop you from becoming sedentary in the workplace and keep you creative. Keeping your blood pumping will keep oxygen flowing.

  • Take some time to yourself
I have a wife and two young children. I love spending time with them, but I do also need time to myself. When you're continually doing things for other people, you will neglect your own physical and mental health.

Take a couple of hours once a week and do something you want to do. This doesn't include your gym time or hobby time. This is just a time when you do nothing. Watch a film or read a book. Take a bike ride and switch off from the world.

This will recoup your energy and give you some time away from thinking about the demands of work and family.

  • Plan your day
I wake at 6 am and I have some structure to my day. My time management efficiency is improving week on week. That isn't just by accident though; I actively work to improve my time management.

Know what are your most important tasks for the week and break them down into days.

Then break them down into hours.

When working keep your phone away from you and close all other browsers on your desktop apart from the ones you need.

This will help you focus and you will get done what you need to get done.

  • Focus on one thing
If you are always chasing new ideas, new avenues of revenue you will lose focus and you will never become successful. Almost all people who have found success find it through mastering a skill and working at it until they are well recognized for their brilliance.

This keeps your mind clear to focus on what you need to get done. If you write content then, write content, don't find a new million dollar idea every week and chase it for three weeks before finding another.

This is something I learned through experience. Trying to focus on too many projects will lead you to total failure unless of course your time management skills are fantastic! But for most, that isn't the reality.

This will help you develop a skill which you can then go onto charge a lot of money for.

Just remember, you will never be remembered for the hours you worked. You will only be remembered for the birthdays you miss, the first days of school, the times you worked 18 hours a day while your kids had to entertain themselves.

It is essential to take in life, especially if you have a family. Make sure you have a switch off time, I like to work hard through the week then the weekend I spend time with the family.

I am lucky because during the week I get to do the school run and lunch times. For those of you who aren't as lucky then remember to make memories not just money.

All the best, people.

Thanks for this.

  • Plan your day
I need to start doing this.

You will be surprised how much more you can get done if you just make a plan.

Mentally you will begin to hold yourself more accountable for your actions.

Work / Life / Balance Is Real.

Structure helps prevent idle hands, routine combats bad habits and the most important of all, No Fun + All Work = Early Grave

I would 100% add exercise to this list.

So many studies have said this time and time again. Exercise is good for you mentally, not just physically. I've been stuck inside for about 3-4 weeks now with the pollution and I've been struggling against burnout constantly.

Do you use an app ( something such as Mendeley )for this or just an old fashioned paper and pen?

Yes I agree with the majority of this. You must plan out your schedule and anticipate rest knowing that it's impossible to work 24/7. Separate some time to ease your mind off things.

Well said. I can see how this will be tough for many of us, considering the unpredictable nature of our 9-5's. But definitely not impossible!

Yes, exercise is very important. I tried to cover it by mentioning taking regular walks, but i may not have been clear.

At the moment just paper and pen.

I have seen those diaries which have sections for what you need to do/achieved. May invest in one. Or create my own lol.

I find taking regular breaks away from the computer has increased my productivity hugely. It feels counter-intuitive at first, but you will be more focussed, feel better and get a lot more done.

Again, though, time management.

If you work 9-5 travel 1 hour a day, then I would 'try' to follow a plan.

Wake at 6 am, breakfast shower and work on your project for an hour or hour and a half.

When you return from work, then spend some time with your family and do another one and a half hours work.

Three hours a day is fifteen hours a week over five days. That is a lot of time, if you use it wisely, to manage social media profiles or run Instagram bots etc.

Definitely great suggestions.
The Body follows the mind, the mind follows the spirit (the next step in that)
Take care of yourself spiritually (love, friends, family), and the mind will respond optimally.
Care for your mental space (organization, clarity, etc), and the body will work optimally.

Profits are in the optimization, and that only comes with the peace of mind body & soul.

Good share friend!

What I actually meant was, having to come in earlier or stay late on some days, unexpectedly.

Self care is indeed important.
Hustling is good. But just putting more hours with the risk of being unhealthy for a while is not worth it.

Thank you for this post.

Usefull share mate.
Health is wealth.

Nothing new in your post but at least is not copy & paste.

Lol, I see work as some kind of fun. I enjoy it, relaxing in the garden with my MacBook in my hands. I really love running my company that way :D Just automizing all my websites and shops, telling my freelancers what to do and thinking about new ideas while sitting outside in the sun.

Never forgive your health, physical and mental. Working with IM is incredibly addictive, it takes you in another world so you've to be very strong in mind to not lose contact with the real life.
