I didn't watch the entire movie, but I tend to look t what the outcome is. One of my friends said the same things as the beginning of the movie and interesting enough, he didn't pay any taxes on his home for several years. He had a ax to grind and a point to bring out in court.

For the last 6 year(give or take) he has lived out of a old commerical vehicle because they took his home. Where I live, it gets nice and chilly during the winter and I really don't believe this was the outcome he was a 'jones-in' for. Now maybe he got his point across, but the outcome-- bad.

Hmm... can't find the link but I read an FAQ on a tax help site where the question was: What percentage of the US population no longer files tax returns. The answer, when you added in those who were illegal aliens, those who dealt in cash only, and those that hid their activities behind small businesses, was 30% and growing every year. The tax honesty movement has been going on for over 25 years. I believe that it's getting too hard to collect through the voluntary self-assessment route and will eventually be replaced by a sales tax in America. That would pretty much end the battles detailed in this video. Then, we'd have an underground economy.

You can avoid the double taxation with a C corp if you know what you're doing. With an S corp, you're just begging for an audit.

Actually it is true that there is no law stating you must file a tax return or pay income taxes. This is one of the main reasons we fought the revolution, to escape the King's unfair tax and being forced to use their money at interest.

That said, just try not paying your taxes for a few years and see what happens People with guns and jails dont need a law to take your money, pretending there is one just makes it seem more civil.

Actually, this is one of the biggest misconceptions about our tax system. The tax system is voluntary in that we are allowed to calculate our own tax liability, but it's not voluntary that we have to pay.

If you meet the requirements to file an income tax return you must file an income tax return. If you have a tax liability, you must pay. I agree with your comments about not paying. You'll only last a short time before some guys in dark suits are visiting you.

The best approach is to learn how to limit your tax liability by taking advantage of the tax laws and all legal strategies. Don't spend time trying to cheat the system. It's better spent trying to minimize your liability. You're gonna pay ... just don't pay more than you have to.

That ratification thing is one example of the retarded tax-denier arguments I mention in my first post on this thread. Again, a simple Google search reveals that the 16th Amendment arguments are bullshit. Or as the judges (repeatedly) call them, legally frivolous.

You're right in that we didn't have income taxes when USA started, and for a long time after that. But after the 16th Amendment, that all changed.

Now we do have laws on the books (both in Title 26) that say we have to file a return and pay taxes.

Plus what davidson said is true... that word "voluntary" trips people up.

Man, I probably missed out on $200 in commissions in the time I spent writing this. Bleh, I'm going back to work.

And let me just point out one piece of irony here.

The guys that sell these "tax freedom" systems and teach seminars to show you how you don't have to pay any taxes ... they are always current on their income taxes because they know the IRS is watching them and will come after them the day after they miss a filing deadline.

Look up Joe Bannister (freedom above fortune). He's a former IRS CID officer that set out to disprove the tax honesty guys and their theories and after a year or 2, came to the conclusion that they were right. When he brought his concerns to IRS management, he was given the boot. Because he wouldn't keep his mouth shut, they put him on trial and he won. He has an online radio talk show where he discusses the income tax (http://www.themicroeffect.com).

Also check out a lawyer that won a unanimous decision against the IRS. His name is Tom Cryer.

Don't get me wrong, I firmly believe that if you have a liability, you should pay. What if you didn't have a liability, or the money paid wasn't taxable?

It's something that each one has to determine, as I'm not about to say that no one owes or everyone does.

Besides, the American taxation system as it stands is very unfair, and causes angst and mistrust among the populace. Add to that the increasing battles the IRS is facing every year and the calls to reform and replace and we'll one day see this system replaced, most likely with a sales tax of some sort.

Look up a video on google video called "Theft by Deception". It breaks down (visually) what income is and isn't taxable.

Wesley snipes got 3 years of prison for listening to some people, the so called tax experts.

To that one guy above saying he likes paying taxes, me to if I was making million dollars a year, but when you are broke, and a third of paycheck goes for taxes, then I dont want too.
