Just now i posted some photos in my wechat group, there's english content in the pictures.
My friends (barely understand english, long-pressed the photo, Wechat scanned the photo then translate the english content to Chinese.)
The content in the pictures!!! --- I'm shocked!!! so powerful!

I couldn't seems to do your trick.
For messages yes, the translate option will be there if you long press the message (text).
For images (with a foreign language), there is no translate option when I long press or double tap the message.

Wechat is pretty good. Can use it to order food, getting bikes, taxis, paying etc. like an all in one solution.

However, the big problem I see is: People depend too much on it. Once you receive a ban you will never ever be able to use the app. I shared the story how Taobao suddenly banned me for having accidentally having two accounts. A lifetime ban, I won't be able to use the their service again. They literally told me this.

"Hi, I saw I can't login anymore"
- "Yes you have been banned"
"Why?"
- "Multiple accounts"
"How can I order something now? Making a new account?"
- "No, you can't use Taobao anymore."

Also what I noticed: I recently tried to set up Wechat on my friends phone. He told me he can't manage to sign up. I asked him why....later on I found out. It incredible hard to make an account now. They want the passport, another user who has Wechat, the phone number, birth date and other information etc. its just so much different from western apps.

I can imagine how shocked you will be when will realize that you can pay for anything from WeChat. There's almost the same amount of transactions like on PayPal...
It's an interesting difference in culture in Europe or US chat's actually was not too successful and didn't develop in anything serious.
