Would you lend a friend money?

I lend anyone I care about money and never ask about it. I dont really care whether they give it back or not.

This why I earn it in the first place. To help those whom I care about

One weird trick to find out who your real friends are. I let one of my best friends i grew up with $500 knowing damn well he would most likely never be able to pay me back, but i did not want to see him out on his ass. What i didn't see coming was him stealing from my house soon after that.

Sad stuff to find out what your lifetime friendship is really worth.

So he thought that you are so kind hearted that you will not mind him stealing some bucks.

If you lend money to a friend it is probable that you will lose both. :) That's why you should avoid lending unless there's an urgency, like something very important for your friend.

Like they say don't put in money you can't afford to lose... Money is where friendship ends.

ahh glory days of college. Still waiting for 100$ my friend borrowed on the last week

A friend asked me for 400GBP literally 2 hours ago. I told him I didn't have it and to try the local credit union. I've always felt awkward asking for money back (which I probably shouldn't) so I just avoid lending like the plague now.

Yeah, if its a small amount OK, but never anything more you couldnt live without.

Lending money is a tough question to answer.

All depends on the person, situation.

Money Lending kills relationships which is why I personally don't take part of it unless it's needed by close family.

If he's proven to be a true friend. I don't lend, I give.
(but that's a long story of circumstances and thoughts behind those actions).

I remember my college days when I gave some money to my room mate and have not heard back about it after even 7 years. Would you lend a friend money? If you already did in past, how was the experience ?
I would and have. just got stiffed 25.00 but its good karma I guess.

I would be careful with larger amounts. Even if you don't care about the money it can create tension in the friendship that may never go away.

No I would not. That is what destroys friendships. Sure you want to help, but if you expect them to repay and they do not, then there is tension that is caused.

4 months later he had another ‘emergency’ with his car and needed $1200. Without hesitation I lent him the money.
Never heard from him till this very day. That was 11 years ago.
unbelievable lend .. now you will not lend any money to any friend , right ?

The amount of people saying the wouldn't lend money to their friends is actually suprising.
If I had a REAL friend who I know I could trust I would definitely lend them the money they needed.

Well many of my "friends" used to owe me money. I made sure i got it back tho..
Some tips:
Never give them rest, remind them regulary that you know of the money they owe you and that you expect it, always have a date set when you should get the money.

If they don't have it by the time they should, don't threten, but don't be nice either, just setup a day in the very near future and really remind them of the money, make sure to say you need it, but don't be apologetic, after all, it's your money.

And now you either have the money already, or you get to some (at first light) violence and bang, you goin' to get your money guaranteed.

If you have to do that to get your money back are you guys really friends?
