I have been wondering this for a while

Would a company say for example 'Coke' use blackhat SEO methords.

I know coke has a extreamly stong brand but do people either work for companies of that sort of size using black hat methords or is it all white hat SEO you do for that sort of clients?

    Regards
    Sam

It's very unlikely. Most large companies (and in fact, probably small companies) wouldn't want their reputation to be compromised by 'spam tactics'.

Its up to what you think black hat is... If you ask, like will those companies use xrumer and scrapbox blasts or posting duplicate contents in directories, NO.. Mostly they dont...

But they do gain links unnaturally. Buying blog posts and other stuff...

So as such you would build a unrelated site not then drive traffic to the main money site ?

As I am just trying to get my head round if i should use Blackhat methords to help a friends online shop( selling products).

Or a combination of whitehat methrods

Cheers for answering my noob questions just trying to understand the pro and cons of blackhat

    Hi,

YES They do. Microsoft tried many times in the past to be the only one in the market by paying developpers/manufacturers to only work on and sell windows powered stuff - which is illegal.

Recently I heard of a CEO who got his business punched in the face by his competitors. They discredited his products by massively posting fake reviews over the internet.

I'd say corporations wouldn't advertise their products using blackhat methods, rather than disqualifying other by doing not so moral stuff.

    Just my opinion,
    cheers.

think most important thing is to see the line between bh and wh :) ... most probably big companies even if they have xrumer / scrapebox and other such tools never will admit they have for use , maybe for testing proposes ... second of that , if posting comments on blogs seems to be understand like bh method ( ok we will not argue about this ) , why isn't considered bh also buying reviews/blogposts ? ... is same '' unnatural '' way to get links like every other ... in my humble opinion most hard-core blackhat method is what google does with their competitors / or vulnerable|possible viable venues ... they simply buy most of them , saw yesterday on net a report ( think is Q-10 one ) ... lol they just bought on last quarter or so around 60 companies :) .... well this is true blackhat folks ... not posting shitloadscraps poor spammy links into some crappyshitloadedofotherspamlinks forums / blogs !

So , if you ask me personally ( even if I have such dirty point of views ) , using BH methods on big companies it's a common sense , they can't crush others competitors or possible competitors without doing something nasty !

Of course they will use blackhat...why? Because nobody cares that Google classifies stuff as "white hat" and "black hat". Only people that don't know anything about SEO cares about that. Google's classification of "black hat" and "white hat" is just an attempt to hide the flaws in their algorithm.

Ok that a really intresting read so cheers for the links

I do think that many companies use bad business praticies to beat competition and to sell there products.

But it looks like for my friends site due to the type of business its going to just be WH SEO.

But just seems like BH is a automated way of doing things.

So if you did blackhat in your niche then its almost white hat just automated hmm

    cheers for the replies

Not all companies do black hat but most of the branded companies actually do SEM.

    Cool never knew the term

but funny how that is not frowned apon and other methords are.

I suppose it come back to budget and time , if you either have lots of time you can do all the SEO manually or if you have money then somone else can do it all for you

This is a BH forum so of course everyone is going to say they do. They definitely aren't doing things like spamming blogs/forums I'll tell you that. But keyword stuffing titles/content - giving away products for a link - paying for links in general - yes they are doing that. But they aren't paying for nubby "buy 100 link" packages. blah"

If you thinks about it, using "coke" as an example. There really is no need for black hat with a company that size. Can you imagine all the high pr links they get each and every day just from someone talking about them whether bad or good going back to there site? Bloggers, corp world etc are always talking about coke so no doubt they are getting "free" links daily

No amount of money could pay for that.

Look up "JC Penny Black Hat" on Google. They got caught a few years back, and Google slapped them around.

I would imagine that the number of large companies engaged in some sort of BH would astound people. I have spoken to numerous folks working at supposed WH SEO shops that will tell you off the record that while they don't openly recommend certain things, they certainly use them from time to time because "they work". It's all about results. The real question becomes "What is BH?" You could probably ask 10 different people and get as many different answers.

It really depends on the company, BUT be careful.

You can bet your ass that they'll sue in a heartbeat if your tactics fuck up their rankings...

Most of all they'll act like it was YOUR fault and that they had no idea what you are doing

    But, here's the thing:

Most "large companies" already have a lot of PageRank and linkjuice to put them on the top. The problem is that the on-site optimization sucks. That's why you see all of these white hat SEO companies priding themselves on how well they do, when all they really do is modify the on-site and don't do any offsite.

Again, IF the companies large enough you can practically get away with doing VERY little and have a successful campaign. Focus deeply on the on-site factors. Monitor rankings/results/traffic. Modify campaign accordingly.

If that doesn't work, then you'll likely have to think of PR campaigns to help create some linkbait to push them over the top.
