Wordpress vs Joomla vs other CMS

I use WP and like it for what I do. However, I do want to learn about Joomla. From some of the comment here it sounds like it may be what I need to use for a large authority site I am planning>

As I see it, here in Europe people prefer Joomla and in english speaking countries people prefer Wordpress.
The simple reason is that Joomla got localized before Wordpress.

The difference is in purpose, while Joomla is a CMS, wp is made for blogging, although it's becoming a full featured CMS.

People also say that drupal is most complicated (and powerful), then wp, then Joomla.

I wouldn't know, I'm using wp from the beginning...
The only reason is that it has waay more plugins...

i'm using wordpress and joomla, but 4 me wordpress it's quickly and simple, don't like to much Joomla ...

Joomla offers a lot more flexibility for managing content than wordpress. That being said I prefer wordpress over Joomla because I can have a site up and running a lot quicker with wp. I do a lot of things with mini-sites so it just doesn't make sense for me to go with Joomla 95% of the time.

Joomla and Wordpress are good for SEO. Wp is for fast mini sites, but Joomla is for bigger projects. SEO potential is the same for bot CMS

I started off with Wordpress and use it on all my sites. The learning curve of it wasn't that bad for my dumbass.

However after reading Meatro's post I'm intrigued with looking into Joomla. Just hope I don't screw the pooch building out a site with it.

I learned joomla first, but moved over to wordpress for the ease of setting up a website, and the amount of good seo plugins available for it. Just my preference.

Hey there, this is my first post here, just wanted to say thank you for your insightful comment, I get asked a lot from my clients about the two, I agree totally with your opinion of Joomla vs. Wordpress. I have had similar experience with Joomla since right after the Mambo phase into Joomla 1.0. Always found it did the job right, when Wordpress became popular, after Blogger and the likes, I found it to be exactly what you said, just a blog platform disguising itself as a CMS...I guess it's easy enough to use for "non-developers masking themselves as developers".
