What's going on? Am I the only one who doesn't know what you are talking about?
WordPress leader Matt Mullenweg has become quite "unprofessional" this past year, all because a WordPress hosting competitor was out-competing them pricing wise, while using official WordPress trademarks to look as legit as possible. The main issue was that while making a lot of money with their service, they were not contributing "enough" back to the open-source community by providing free coding to the core of WordPress. So after a lot of private discussion with them (and warnings), telling them to start contributing more, he decided that his best course of action was to limit their ability to compete, by disabling services for them. This left a poor taste in peoples mouths because it was an abuse of power.
So now there is all sorts of legal battles going on between these two companies. And the whole thing has exposed Matt as being somewhat unstable because besides the fact that he disabled some of their services (like not letting them use WordPress servers to download updates for their customers, which seems reasonable), he likes to air out details about the situation in a way that would make lawyers blush with embarrassment. He doesn't seem to have much filter, which can be a cool thing IMO.
Now there's internal talks about forking WordPress, and making different organizations, to which Matt has gotten upset about these discussions. And has resulted in him removing the big names discussing them, from contributing, and saying essentially "go do it then".
It's an unfortunate situation, and I think Matt is a good person. But the whole thing has seemed to show people how "WordPress" is controlled essentially by Matt, and that he is someone that is not neccessarily corporate or professional minded, and that he can change things on a whim - which makes developers nervous.
